two Sylvester McCoys (Dragonfire NOOOOOO!, and Silver Nemesis)

Two of my favourites actually, because McCoy is pitch perfect in them. He can occasionally be over the top, but in those two, he's fine.

I've been enjoying digging into random Big Finish Audio adventures.

Many of the early ones are up on the streaming platforms. And I've bought a few.

But so many! I'll finish off Storm Warning, for starters.

But yes, p'raps the wife and I will watch some Dr. Who this evening. And I'll try not to just let it be Pyramids of Mars for th nth time!

Pitch perfect and Sylvester McCoy are not usually four words I'd put together! And Dragonfire, really is the pits. The only things I like are: Tony Selby's return as Glitz and Dominic Glynn's music score. The former is one of the brighter cast lights of Doctor Who's decent into the late eighties doldrums, whilst Glynn does the same for the music. Thought his Ron Grainer theme arrangement for Trial of A Time Lord was rubbish, mind. But the Fortress of Solitude inspired sets are poor, the Alien inspired... well, alien is poor. And as for the infamous 'cliff-hanging' struggle. Dear oh dear! I suppose other casting's not bad either - Magenta from Rocky Horror! Edward Peel had a little gravitas too. Outgoing and incoming companions are another matter.

Silver Nemesis I don't mind despite the bad press it gets from many fans. The Cybermen are great with their chrome faces, and David Banks is still cool as the Cyberleader of choice. Anton Differing too! And then there's some reasonable effects of the shuttle craft hovering around the British countryside. I guess limited cg were coming in (there are some nice meteor effects in space too).

But for me McCoy only really comes alive in his fifteen minutes at the start of the Paul McGann US-UK co-produced TV Movie. De-robed of his JNT directed nonsensical question mark explosion costume-wise, he looks great and the performance is good. If only the other bottom rung Doctor, Colin Baker could have had a similar makeover at some point. Add to this Sylv's role in The Hobbit trilogy and I now tend to have a softer spot for him than I once did.

I met him whilst he was doing The Hobbit films, and obviously knowing they were set before the LotR trilogy, I asked him if Christopher Lee was in the new films. His answer was yes, but was quite cagey about it. I did say I knew it would be most likely done separately and put together in post-production..

Anyway! I did watch An Unerthly Child with wife in tow. A smoothed it over by following it with the last anniversary story, the 50th spesh Day of the Doctor. She's cooler with modern Who. There was only one classic watched last night in MY mind.
