The late Dan Ireland made his directorial debut with the 1996 film THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD. This true story was set in Texas in the 1930s, where young schoolteacher "Novalyne Price" (Renée Zellweger) meets a handsome, eccentric, interesting young man named "Robert Howard" (Vincent D'Onofrio). He's a successful writer--of the pulp stories of "Conan the Barbarian"; she's an aspiring one. A friendship develops into a sort of courtship. Ann Wedgeworth costars as Robert's not-quite-dominating, but still-quite-demanding mother. The film's score by Harry Gregson-Williams and Hans Zimmer was released on CD by Mojo Trax.

A decade after THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD, Ann Wedgeworth made her final film appearance in THE HAWK IS DYING (2006). Ann Wedgeworth never headlined a feature film or television show, but she was a sought-after character actress, and one whose performances will continue to give audiences enjoyment in years to come.
