Volume 3 of Alan Silvestri Cosmos soundtrack music premieres on CD with bonus tracks! Cosmos: A SpaceTime Odyssey is epic 2014 continuation of famed Carl Sagan television series from 1980. New series features Neil deGrasse Tyson as host with cutting edge CGI, animation, science fact blending into new, compelling journey through space and time. Along for the ride, sometimes leading, sometimes in tow is rich score by Alan Silvestri. As with Volumes 1 & 2, Silvestri melds powerful symphonic sequences with intimate lines, sometimes enveloping them in rich swirling strings, other times enrobing them in lively electronic rhythms. Third volume gives emphasis to music scored for third episode of series. As humankind adapts to surroundings via pattern recognition, learns to distinguish safe environment from dangerous environment, predator from prey, so Silvestri’s music provides dramatic contrast between dramatic rhythms, powerful symphonic sequences with electronic ideas emphasizing forward motion. Amongst numerous highlights: warm theme for “Physical State Of The Stars” with noble French horns supporting strings, rich major chord harmonies throughout; sinewy oboe line and surging horns with strings leading to dynamic trombone figure in “The Way We Live Now”; strong thematic structure of “The Lead Herring” melding into stirring climax; tender new theme for strings, woodwinds and variants of secondary theme on piano that open “He Broke Through The Walls Of Heaven”; powerful orchestral climax for closing “Halley’s Comet”. As with Volumes 1 & 2, Intrada release of Volume 3 on CD premieres bonus tracks not available anywhere else. This is the third in Intrada’s series of four volumes devoted to Silvestri’s magnificent score for Cosmos. Album produced by Silvestri with his own comments in colorful booklet designed by Kay Marshall. Lavishly recorded by Simon Rhodes at Abbey Road in London, mixed by Dennis Sands, mastered by Patricia Sullivan at Bernie Grundman Mastering. Mark Graham, Gavin Greenaway, Alan Silvestri conduct. Intrada Special Collection CD available while quantities and interest remain!

In this third volume of music from COSMOS: A SpaceTime Odyssey, composer Alan Silvestri continues to develop his musical universe laid out in the first two episodes. Mainly scored for episode three, this part focuses on the how humankind adapts to its surroundings using pattern recognition that has evolved over eons -- distinguishing predator from prey, dangerous from helpful plants, and on into our study of the cosmos itself.

As with the first two volumes, Silvestri's music is gloriously symphonic, with some modern synth-based rhythms. Intrada presents this third visit to the Cosmos universe, produced by the composer, including additional bonus tracks not previously released. Inside the colorful packaging are a few words from composer Alan Silvestri describing his journey to scoring this series when he began his relationship with team Sagan back in 1997 with the film Contact. This release is the penultimate album in Intrada's four-volume trip through Silvestri's musical odyssey.

I wonder if Intrada would be able to create/build a COSMOS box* that the 4 CD's could be housed in and offer it as a bonus if you bought all 4 CD's?

*like the LETHAL WEAPON and MEDAL OF HONOUR series.

I think user dogplant made something similar to house their Jaws CDs which I think is just lovely.

Doubt there will be one for Cosmos - but I encourage fan creations such as these, and would love one for Jaws btw. smile I read in some random twitter comment that there were original plans for a boxset but John Williams said no thank you.
