I'm also disappointed that we won't now see the Gore Vidal biopic on Netflix with Spacey.

What a waste. Reminds me of a certain song from the Neil Diamond, Jazz Singer.

There have been people cut from films entirely, but off hand I don't know of any completely re-filmed.

So long, Spacey! Time to pop another bag of Shadin' Freud brand popcorn!

There have been cases of actors being replaced because they died before completing their role, or because it was decided early on to recast, but, yea, I can't think of another case like this one.

Good catch, Jim.
And a good, timely tune.

For some reason I don't quite understand, the lyrics remind me of the time that Sean Hannity had Chris Hitchens on his show just after Jerry Falwell died.
Hannity thought he could shame Hitchens (big mistake) and, Hitchens being Hitchens, sliced Hannity up a treat for all to see.

Sorry pals, I realize my post has nothing to do with Plummer or Spacey.

Even though I don't give a shit about the oscars, I believe there was already "oscar buzz" about this film. Even though they're replacing Spacey with Plummer, I think all chances of any oscar nominations are practically nil now.

I remember years ago somebody who some small bit part in one of the Star Wars prequels talked about it on the IMDb forum. He was cut out of the final film.

Closest is maybe something like Back to the Future, but they certainly hadn't finished the film when they traded out Fox for Stoltz.

The only thing in which I take some small measure of comfort is to think, Thank God Jack Lemmon, Spacey's mentor, did not live to see this.

Was Spacey aged to play the role? Or will Plummer be "Bruce-Willis-Surrogate'd" to look younger?

And if the soundtrack composer is accused of being a sexual predator, they'll have to replace the score, so there will be that Oscar loss also. Of course eventually the original cast-film with original score would be released - it's not like it was a snuff film. And it will probably be deemed better than the redacted film.

The former.
