Can't wait for the CD!

I really hate this trend of the digital release coming out a month or two before the CD. I'd like to get this score, but I don't want to pay for the low quality download files if I know that something better is on the way shortly.

I'd like to get this score, but I don't want to pay for the low quality download files if I know that something better is on the way shortly. As someone who works at a label I can tell you it's because of waiting for approvals and/or not getting artwork or billing blocks or what not in time to get a CD ready, uploaded, plus getting it manufactured and sent to all the places that want to carry the CD. A digital release, you need the music, the tracks and just the front cover, that's it. In a perfect world labels have the CD and digital hand in hand.

Or they could release them at the same time. just holding back the digital until the physical is ready. It's not like there's a mad rush to get the latest modern score, good or bad.

Why have studios / labels been able to get out CD soundtracks around the time of the film's release with relative ease until this point? When did that become so problematic?

I'll pick up the lossless download when available at 7-Digital. Meanwhile, I'm listening to Shaiman's score on Spotify. Excellent stuff, really beautiful and, at times, tense. Will definitely see the movie when released in UK.

I have to disagree. I love the possibility of downloading earlier and not waiting for the CD since - hate me now - I only buy CDs anymore when I absolutely want to add one to my collection or a download is not available. Maybe, at 48, my hearing isn´t good enough anymore anyway (I understand that the loss of data on mp3 files cannot be actually heard if you are this side of 40.) But I´d rather download quickly and am content with the quality than waiting for a CD which I might not even enjoy and now will be another dead weight to my shelves.

Me too. I only buy CDs now if not available on download. I've bought the MacKenna's Gold/In Cold Blood CD from Intrada but apart from that very few recently.

For me it's an equilibrium of the best quality available versus the best price. I always want at least CD quality, if I can get it, meaning that I have to go to HDTracks or 7Digital. The thing is that actual CDs are still less expensive than high quality downloads. They're often less expensive than low quality downloads too. I don't want to pay 10-12 bucks for something that will sound a lot better on CD and be less expensive to boot. It's a bummer that we're now having to wait 1-2 months for that to happen now, instead of the releases being relatively close together.

Some of the titles like this have AutoRip on Amazon, so you'd be able to listen to the download in the meantime, as you await the CD version.

I have no doubt Shaiman was hired on the basis of THE AMERICAN PRESIDENT for this particular project. Well, Shaiman has scored all but 1½ of "LBJ" director Rob Reiner's films since "Misery," including "The American President," so sorta but not really. Now that my belated fastidiousness is satisfied… did a CD ever actually happen for this score? The film was barely released, so I'd guess it didn't, and maybe won't unless it coincides with the home video release. I'm good with the download, just curious. It seems to be one of those CDs that Lakeshore announced then cancelled, like Randy Newman's Meyerowitz Stories. But at least they seem to be finally releasing those Saw Anthology discs (not to compare Charlie Clouser to Newman and Shaiman).
