[Had never before heard of Respighi, but listened to the music via the link you provided : very impressive. Have lots of really good reference books on composers and discovered that. amongst other things, including being a respected composer in his own right, he was Rossini's favourite orchestrator and arranger and he worked on a very varied range of genres : ballets, dances. religious music, etc. He appears to have been very skilled, adaptable and able to produce a large volume of quality work to a schedule : all positive attributes for the job! ] Where did you read THAT little gem?! Clearly not from any source I'd trust. Gioachino Antonio Rossini - 29 February 1792 – 13 November 1868 Ottorino Respighi - 9 July 1879 – 18 April 1936 Respighi DID, however, make a ballet based off of some of Rossini's piano music -- La Boutique Fantasque, it's a great piece.

[The source is not to blame . It's my misinterpretation of the text during the 'early hours' which is at fault. It referred to Respighi's colourful arrangements /orchestrations of a small selection taken from around 180 piano pieces (Sins of Old Age ...in English) composed by Rossini . It was this music which was used for the score of the Ballet Russe's production, La Boutique Fantasque, which has remained a favourite. Another learning curve added to the collection! ]
