I found a lonely copy of this album in the classical section of a Parisian record shop and bought it at once. This performance is absolutely superb throughout. Morricone is the least represented composer in terms of duration but the music he's represented with is very intense, including the serial Musica per undici violini from 1958. Besides, if you don't have the children choir album BAMBINI DEL MONDO, you can get here yet another version of this harrowing track originally written for TEN TO SURVIVE, and newly entitled Arcate di archi, Meditazione in Re maggiore. Mosè is the Yo Yo Ma featuring of course a smaller orchestra. I was at first surprised to find the beloved Gabriel's oboe on this album but since Nota is reprented by THE GODFATHER and Piovani by LA VITA E BELLA, I guess they wanted to put something related to the Academy Award for Morricone as well. And since THE HATEFUL 8 was arguably not appropriate for this album, Gabriel's oboe was propably the best compromise. Superb oboe solo by Paolo Pollastri, by the way. I also strongly advise Piovani's Il canto dei neutrini, a whole and very pleasant concerto for cello and orchestra.
