LAKESHORE RECORDS & INVADA RECORDS TO RELEASE
“STRANGER THINGS 2” ORIGINAL SCORE SOUNDTRACK

Featuring Music By Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein of S U R V I V E

(October 19, 2017 – Los Angeles, CA) – Lakeshore Records, in conjunction with Invada Records, will release the double album Stranger Things 2 - Original Netflix Series Soundtrack digitally on October 20th. The album will also be available on CD later this year, with an LP forthcoming. The double album features the original score by Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein, members of the Austin experimental synth band S U R V I V E.

“In Season 2 we’re introducing new styles of composition, while still revisiting old themes when appropriate,” said composers Dixon and Stein. “We’ve created new elements to support the story, but still want to remain true to the sound of Season 1.”

In “Stranger Things 2,” which premieres on Netflix October 27th, it’s 1984 and the citizens of Hawkins, Indiana are still reeling from the horrors of the Demogorgon and the secrets of Hawkins Lab. Will Byers has been rescued from the Upside Down but a bigger, sinister entity still threatens those who survived.

EMMY®-winning and Grammy®-nominated Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein, half of the Austin band S U R V I V E, traveled back in musical time to score the award-winning Netflix original series “Stranger Things.” Series creators The Duffer Brothers tapped the duo due to their classic synths spun into distinctly modern sounds—and the resulting alchemy produced a Primetime Emmy Award win for Outstanding Main Title Theme Music, two Grammy nominations for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media, an ASCAP Composers' Choice Award nomination for TV Composer(s) of the Year, and a World Soundtrack Award nomination for TV Composer(s) of the Year.

Dixon and Stein, both Texas natives, were born in the early 1980s when the inspirations for “Stranger Things” were being made. They met as teenagers and both gravitated towards the analog, electronic tones of their childhoods. S U R V I V E has quickly exploded from being a hip Austin act to touring the U.S. and Europe, and the band recently released their second studio album, “RR7349.”

“Stranger Things 2” will debut globally on Netflix on October 27. Lakeshore Records, in conjunction with Invada Records, will release the double album Stranger Things 2 - Original Netflix Series Soundtrack digitally on October 20th and on CD later this year with an LP forthcoming.

Glad we didn't have to wait for this one. I just purchased the digital version. I'll be picking up the physical CD's when they are available too.

Mine is coming on Monday. Can't wait for this new music- I absolutely loved music on Season 1, but this all synth/electronic music was perfect in the show and to my ears.

As a devotee of physical media, it pains me to do it, but there is an exclusive deluxe edition through iTunes that features nearly an hour of additional music not to be found on the CD, so that’s where my money is going. Pretty pissed that I can’t have the same experience in disc form, though. Lakeshore is quickly becoming my most hated label because of their emphasis on downloading over physical releases.

The CD is a listening experience. The bonus tracks are all of the tension and suspense cues.

This will have to be so for me too. Same thing happened with TRON: Legacy. Went digital because digital offered more of the score. I'd rather have a physical release. But I'd rather have more of the score in digital than having a physical version with less.

Check out Tangerine Dream's cover of the STRANGER THINGS main theme on their "Particles" album. It blows the original away.
