TERRORVISION
Original Score by RICHARD BAND
Original Songs by THE FIBONACCIS
INTRADA Special Collection 393

I knew I wanted a truly’ 60s-style sound not unlike that in a Lost in Space episode because the movie had a very unique look
and color about it and the humorous (though more contemporary) subject matter dictated a VERY untraditional approach.
-- Richard Band

Richard Band approached his scoring of Empire Pictures’ cosmic sci-fi/monster vehicle TerrorVision (1986), produced by family members Charles and Albert Band, with an array of synthesized colors—both tonal and otherworldly—in keeping with the quirky tale of the Putterman family and their monster-inhabited TV set. Restless Records issued a short-lived LP in 1986, with one side devoted to the five vocal and instrumental tracks written and performed by The Fibonaccis and the other side offering highlights from Richard Band’s original score. For the premiere release of this score on CD, Intrada accessed the original ½” three-channel and 2” eight-channel session masters recorded by Christopher L. Stone, and created all-new stereo mixes, allowing Intrada to add a substantial amount of previously unreleased music.

In the film, an alien garbage disposal converts a monsterous mutant into energy and beams it into space, where it is received via a new satellite dish set up in the Putterman's back yard. Three kids try to take care of it to prevent it from going on a hungry rampage.

This release is limited to 500 copies.

Relieved the songs are included! Just wouldn't be the same without the opening.

Great release. Over 15 minutes of unreleased score and - unlike the LP - not combining short cues together (will be nice to have all of the hilarious Medusa "midnight spook show" cues separately). And as Intrada notes, this score has a very different feel than Band's subsequent electronic work because it is pre-MIDI. It was always my impression that for this score the choice of electronics was not a budgetary decision but rather a creative one.

By the way, though an Empire Pictures film, "TerrorVision" seems more like a higher-end Troma production, if something of that sort were ever to exist! It's uniquely delirious and garish, and Band's score adds a lot to it. It also has a cult, and I imagine the 500 copies will go very fast.

What happened with "CD available while quantities and interest remain"?

My guess is that Intrada was contractually required by Restless Records/WMG to press 500 copies in order for this particular project to come to fruition. But that is just speculation. As your post implied, a limited edition release like this is out of the ordinary for Intrada these days.

Just received my disc today, thanks Intrada! Fun (dare I say zany) score, and glad to have the Fibonaccis songs included.

I noticed two of the songs have slightly different names than the original LP-- 'Sack Of Suit Suite' has become 'Sack of Suet Suite,' and 'HE Can't Stop Laughing' (all caps HE) has become 'He Can't Stop Laughing.' I'm just curious if the original LP titles contained typos, or if the CD track listing does?

Minor things really, and just so glad to finally have it on disc, expanded no less!

EDIT: Listening towards the end of the song 'TerrorVision,' Magie Song sings the line "A sack of suet with eyes and a mouth," which answers my question.

I find it hard to believe they got it from Rhino. Rhino does not do deals less than 1500 units guaranteed. If Rhino did give them a license my guess is they did the Profit and Loss figures and decided if they sold all 500 at $19.98 they could cover the guarantee and still make money.
