Due to Demand, and the high price of "used" CDs...Tadlow Music has done a very limited re-issue of one of their most acclaimed Miklos Rozsa recordings. Go to www.tadlowmusic.com for more info....

I just wanted to chime in to say that I feel this is a superb recording, and that this is a great opportunity if you somehow missed it.

Seriously, this is a great score, and the performances is excellent.

Yup, I love it, anyone who doesn't have it & likes Rozsa shouldn't hesitate.

That's quite a recommendation! I'm really not that familiar with this score but the words "Tadlow" and "Rozsa" are just way too tempting. Hopefully this will still be available for a few days, I have to wait for payday frown

I second that. Such a marvelous score that is one of Rozsa's absolute best played beautifully by COPP. The film itself is also worth seeking out (one of Billy Wilder's most criminally underrated films).

Wonderful album. I place it in the top 3 of Tadlow's recordings of classic film scores.

An elementary work ... which I never had the possibility to obtain. Thank you so much for this re-release.

Colosseum's recording of "English Waltz (Vienna in Scotland)" provided me the only glimpse of the greatness of this score.
Until now. :-)

Okay folks, due to the overwhelmingly positive reviews from both the Miklos forum and here I broke down, whipped out my overused credit card and ordered this from Tadlow. GREATLY looking forward!!!

It was Tadlow's first MR release, and preceded the official OST release. Beautiful booklet too, with a clever design.

And it has also got nice pikchers of Lucie Svehlova playing her violinn and it has bonus music, wot nobody has heard before.

Do you have the violin concerto itself? 'Lots of good performances on CD now.

I have the Naxos, fell in love with it right off. My purchase was based upon

a) knowing the score was somewhat based upon that Concerto, plus
b) checking out (and being very happily awed) by the playing in the Tadlow video
c) it's TADLOW for cryn out loud and finally...

d) YOU FOLKS, who twisted my arm and then forced my hand smile

I agree; this is one of my favorite Wilder films and Rozsa scores. That said, the film itself could/would have been a lot better if Wilder had been able to do his complete vision without interference.

Well there has to be one doesn't there.....

I don't actually like this score that much. Not entirely sure why, whether it's just violins get my back up but I really struggle to get through this.

Love everything else I've heard of Rozsa, of which the 34 scores of his I have should attest to - including all Tadlow's fabulous rerecordings, but this one just does nothing for me.
I want to like it and dig it out every now and again to give it another try, but I always end up having to turn it off as it just ends up grating on my nerves.

Very odd and I don't really understand why.

Don't feel too weird my friend! I borderline worship Beethoven's 9th but can't stand the third (slow) movement. For some reason it simply never clicked for me, and I always skip it to listen to the rest. I've been attacked many times because of this lol!

Sometimes one just doesn't like a piece of music, whether it's considered great or not. I've heard samples of the old releases of PLOSH and really liked them, plus I ADORE both the maestro's violin concerto and Tadlow, so this was a no brainer for me early on.

I'm SUPER excited, today I get the Tadlow Sodom and Gomorrah (YAY!), then Thief of Bagdad tomorrow, and probably Sherlock next weekend or so. It's a Rozsa/Tadlow week for me and I'm smiling like a loon as I write this! smile

I saw the film when it came out. Love the film, love the score. I was so happy when James / Tadlow issued the wonderful score newly recorded. Don't miss this! smile

There are a LOT of scores that seem to get universal praise on this board that I boggle as to why. Even when I enjoy the score I don't quite get why they elevate it to such sheer heights.

That said, I absolutely adore The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes....
