After the fantastic release of "Popeye" earlier this month, this is my last wish list request. Fabulous movie with great music from Leslie Bricusse and wonderful central performance from Albert Finney. Great feel good Christmas movie, but where is the CD release of the soundtrack? I'm sure this would be on many people's Christmas wish lists this year.

Close to it. I would love to see a CD release of the original score, that and the Rankin Bass Hobbit movie soundtracks.

The question of a SCROOGE release comes up periodically. Apparently, the cost of sorting out the rights is just too great to make the release profitable.

Since Sony isn't interested in putting out any C.D.s of their film musicals out, though if they had a change of heart they should put out the rerecording (only the overture is from the soundtrack) and the original soundtrack out on one, maybe a 2 C.D. set. "Scrooge" remains probably the holy grail among collectors of Christmas musicals that should be put out on C.D..

The rights issues surrounding this soundtrack are very perplexing to my old brain! The film itself has been out on VHS, laser disc, DVD and Blu Ray, the stage adaptation is on CD, so what is it about the actual soundtrack that makes a CD release so complicated compared to the other released media?

The Blu ray is missing the overture.

Leslie Bricusse is going to be heard in the commentary track for the upcoming Twilight Time Blu-ray edition of DOCTOR DOLITTLE coming out in November.

Sorry, I know this is an American site, but for UK fans, I see there's a radio production staring Anthony Newley from 1995 on Radio 4 Extra on Christmas Eve, I'll be recording it.

Scrooge - The Musical
Christmas Eve, midday-2.30pm, BBC Radio 4 Extra

BBC Radio 4 Extra presents a special festive treat - Leslie Bricusse’s musical adaptation of the classic Charles Dickens tale A Christmas Carol, which theatre expert Sheridan Morley calls a “superlative production”.

Starring in the title role is singer, actor and songwriter Anthony Newley, who began his career in another Dickens adaptation, playing the Artful Dodger in David Lean’s 1948 film Oliver Twist.

Co-starring in Scrooge are Stratford Johns (Z-Cars, Doctor Who) as the Ghost of Christmas Present, Barry Howard (Hi-De-Hi) as Jacob Marley, and Felicity Soper (Romulus My Father, Neighbours) as the Ghost of Christmas Past.

Based on the much-loved 1951 film starring Alastair Sim, Scrooge was recorded at the Palace Theatre in Manchester and first broadcast on BBC Radio 2 in 1995.
Director: Tudor Davies
Music director: David Beer
Producer: John Langridge for the BBC

Thanks for that Rameau. I actually remember listening to that original broadcast on Radio 2 in 1995!! Be good to hear it again, and yes record it. Sad that Sheridan is no longer with us.
