Fifty years on from its first UK broadcast, The Prisoner remains as fresh and dynamic as when it was first unleashed upon an unsuspecting world in 1967.

he music of The Prisoner is, in its own way, as much of a puzzle as the series itself.

No fewer than three opening title themes were commissioned, with the final choice subjected to extensive revision at the suggestion of Patrick McGoohan.

Original incidental cues for the series were composed by Albert Elms, Wilfred Josephs and Robert Farnon, with key episodes receiving their own score, whilst others were tracked using these same themes.

In addition, dozens more pieces were sourced from the Chappell Music library, many of them as distinctive and characterful as the specially-composed cues. Together, these musical items provided a unique, surreal and sometimes disorienting audio backdrop to Patrick McGoohan’s visionary series.

This release brings together all of the specially-composed music and library tracks in one collection for the first time, along with many alternate and unused takes.

Carefully compiled and remastered from the best available sources, this 6-CD set is accompanied by detailed notes from TV historian Andrew Pixley.

This 6-CD set to THE PRISONER is a welcome announcement. I very much enjoyed the series in its initial run.

For quite a while, the Network folks hadn't released any scores and seemed to concentrate on vintage UK films and TV shows that I had not seen or heard of and were clearly aimed at their domestic audience.

In the past, they had released quite a bit of interesting music from a number of TV shows, some of which had had some runs on US Television:
Danger Man (2-CD) (30 min. episodes)
Danger Man (5-CD) (60-min. episodes)
The Saint (4-CD)
Department S (3-CD)
Strange Report (1-CD)
The Prisoner (3-CD)
The Champions (3-CD)
Randall and Hopkirk (3-CD)
Man in a Suitcase (5-CD)
Jason King (2-CD)

Here we go again, with an "expanded" version of The Prisoner.

Oh good. While I did enjoy the straight up warts all session tapes presentation on the previous box, a complete Prisoner soundtrack box incorporating both the original cues and stock music from the show has been long overdue.

I much too tired at the moment to research this. Can someone more knowledgeable than me answer this...

Does this negate ALL previous releases and incorporate everything?

If this was just announced, how would any of us know?

Well, we've established that OnyaBirri is NOT more knowledgeable than I am regarding this release. Could anyone else be more helpful?

Noone on FSM is going to know unless they're an "insider" so I doubt you'll get a quick answer. Chances are Network Customer service wont know either unless they forward your question but it would still be worth emailing them. I'm alittle surprised Johnjohnson doesnt know.

Well I'd look at the tracklistings of The previous Network 3-Disc and Unmutual sets once this gets broken down track by track just to be sure nothing got left out.

As it stands its a little too vague.

Thanks guys! I've emailed Network as well, just in case someone there is in the know. I'll post their response when I get it.

Track titles alone can't confirm contents. Tracks can be edited or retitled. There is no way to definitivly answer the OP's question unless someone who is very familiar with the prior sets buys the new one and thoroughly compares them.

Oh, this is fantastic. I splurged on the Network soundtrack sets during one of their sales, and one of the few I had to pick up still was The Prisoner (I also only ever had 2 of the Silva Screen compilations, which I'd found on sale) ...so for everything (hopefully!) in one place, this is a great deal.

I believe this release contains every piece of music used in the show plus unused bits.

I got mine last week and I think that you are right. This is the definitive collection of The Prisoner score. Highly recommended!

Available only in the UK I believe, just like the 50th Anniversary BluRays?

I would've loved to have bought that complete bluray with the book, documentary, soundtrack... but its Region B. Alas.

Pretty easy to free oneself, regionally speaking.
