Here is a new thread especially to discuss the John Williams Discography.

First, the main discography on the web: http://www.goplanete.com/johnwilliams/music/disco/albums.htm

Then, also, the Wikipedia discography: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Williams_discography

Started by myself in 2012, it's I think the most complete and comprehensive U.S. discography of John Williams that can be actually found.

It includes all the works performed by John Williams, as a performer and a conductor. It also features a section dedicated to his discography as a composer, which features many compositions which he himself did not record.

Please help me to keep it up to date!

Finally took the plunge and bought the iTunes ESB - the original 2 LP presentation.

This is both magical and heartbreaking for me. Empire is my favourite Star Wars score and one of my favourite scores ever. The original 2LP presentation was never available to me growing up. I had to make do with the one LP treatment. So much music that I wanted to hear was missing. This was brilliantly fixed with the expansion albums that were released in 1997.

However - hearing this album presentation is so bittersweet. To realise that so much of the music that I wanted to hear was available for years and I never knew (remember - this was pre-internet) is frustrating. But hearing the edits - to hear how this album was designed in much the same way as the original Star Wars album with edits from different parts of the film to make a better listening experience...that is magical. If the 2LP thing has stuck, I can only wonder what a Return of the Jedi album would have sounded like.

Anyway - random thoughts fuelled by the OP comments

Émanuel, you might want to check out Markus Hable's website — he has been collecting and chronicling maestro Williams' work for 16 years at his own website (see below). Good luck.

I know Markus website very well, it helped me a lot constructing my discography (along with many other sources). But Markus website's is more a fan site than a real discography (containing CD-R, bootlegs, not always the right original album titles, not listing the mono/stereo reissues, you know...). In the case of John Williams we needed 1) all the complete U.S. original discography entries, 2) a well-organized discography worthy of the name and 3) all the information covering all the aspects of JW's career at one single place.

It was a challenge, trust me, now that it's done! But Markus's website remains essential and it's complementary to mine I would say.

Albums I'd most like to see reissued on CD: the Manne/Gershwin album, the Jerry Fielding albums, the Porgy and Bess album (Broadway Cast arr. by Williams), and the Pete Candoli albums.

You are right, there's a little lack about these ones! I've digitally restored Porgy and Bess recently, both mono and stereo releases.

Well, 2017 is'nt finished yet... Other releases that were addeed to the discography :-) (And we know that CE3K is coming soon.. "maybe" the next days...)

Harry Potter: Original Motion Picture Soundtracks I-V (2017, Rhino, Compilation, 10 LPs)
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001), Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002), Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004): Composed and Conducted by John Williams; Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005): Composed and Conducted by Patrick Doyle; Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007): Composed by Nicholas Hooper.

    A new expansion

    Funny Face - 60th Anniversary Edition (2017, Verve, 602557915709)
Featuring John Williams (p). Contains previously unreleased material.

A 7th recording of the Concerto for Tuba has been added in the "discography as a composer" section:

John Williams: Concerto for Tuba and Orchestra (Baer, New York Philh. O, Robertson).

And this recent vinyl EP Too:

2017 "Star Wars - A New Hope". Main Title / The Throne Room and End Title Walt Disney Records

I am waiting before adding the new 3-LP of the 40th Star Wars vinyl reissue... as it don't seem we know yet the exact content of this release (what's on the 3rd LP particularly!).

I can only assume the "session tape" for "Main Title" and the alternate "Binary Sunset" will also be included on that 3-LP set of Star Wars. The whole score, with bonus tracks, clocks in on the CD at 105:47 (including the silence after the alternate "Binary Sunset"), more than enough for 3 LPs....
