It definitely sounds better than the old Artemis CD, which was likely just a vinyl transfer. But not as good as the isolated score on the Blu-Ray. Is the Blu-ray's isolated score in stereo? The Pioneer Special Edition laserdisc of the film also had an isolated score, but in mono only. The Blu Ray iso track is mono. And not quite complete, it's missing one short but beautiful track featuring some eerie whistling.

Any comments how good the HD version sounds? Are you happy with it?

The film also credits Christopher Gunning for "Additional Music." I wonder if that's the missing cue. Or perhaps there are some cues not appearing on the soundtrack LP, but still on the isolated track, that are by Gunning. Actually the credit is "Additional Music Arranged and Conducted by Christopher Gunning", so it's all Bennett. I read an interview with Gunning once in which he said Bennett had him arrange military marches and "bits he didn't want to do". Any comments how good the HD version sounds? Are you happy with it? In any case I bought the 96k download and it sounds great. Honestly, for me this is the most exciting of all the recent releases.

Any comments how good the HD version sounds? Are you happy with it? I'm pleased with the 16-bit FLAC offered @ 7digital: https://us.7digital.com/artist/original-soundtrack-recording/release/nicholas-and-alexandra-18839565 [Perhaps this was released in December of 2021 as a type of 50th anniversary] What's curious to me is why Sony issues this by its title only. No names of artists - just 'original soundtrack'. Neither conductor nor orchestra credited ... and since R.R. Bennett's name is absent, this item won't display in searches by composers. Is Sony deliberately not tagging these tracks with names to avoid paying royalties/residuals?

Another Bennett score, never commercially released, is his music for THE DEVIL’s DISCIPLE (1959), melodic and memorable. There’s actually a lot of it in the film, though it is only in the film, I fear, that you will ever have opportunity hear it. And even that is but rarely shown, though it has finally become available on video, though without any isolated music.

Outstanding picture on every level -- clever, funny, spiffy, action-packed. I confess I was a little embarrassed I hadn't heard of a film which was based on a play by George Bernard Shaw, directed by Guy Hamilton and starred Olivier, Lancaster and Douglas. And agreed, Bennett's score is first-rate.
