I never saw the whole film -- I think it was of the Sam Shepard play, FOOL FOR LOVE -- but I always loved his line-reading in the trailer: "I'm married to Barbara Mandrell in my MIND." Come to think of it, it's about time I finally do track down the movie and see it already. Many years ago, a friend of mine witnessed this little vignette in a Hollywood restaurant which to me epitomizes an actor's life in Tinseltown. Somebody who knew Stanton was having a friendly discussion with another fellow about movies, and at one point he called across the room to Stanton: "Hey, Harry -- were you in HOW THE WEST WAS WON?" Stanton had to think for a moment. So, he held up his right hand and pantomimed what actors call a "sense memory" exercise of holding a six-shooter. Only then could he answer, "Yeah."
