First aware of him when singing in Cool Hand Luke and Kellys Heroes.

Just last week i was watching Straight time with dustin Hoffman, where he played hoffman's mate and jewellry-store robber.

He left a very substantial body of work over 7 decades.

R.I.P.

I first saw Stanton in Alien. He was one of those character actors whose name in the credits ensures that the movie is probably worth watching.

I like him especially in:

The Black Marble
The Straight Story
Farewell, My Lovely
The Godfather Part II
Rafferty and the Gold Dust Twins
Wise Blood
One From the Heart
and, of course, Paris, Texas.

Harry Dean Stanton was a close friend of Warren Oates—both men were country people from Kentucky—and guested in his films (see Two-Lane Blacktop, Dillinger, Cockfighter). He appeared in countless episodic television series starting from the 1950's.

I remembered Harry Dean Stanton in two parts:
Escape from New York (1981)
Repo Man (1984)

Dominic Frontiere - Soames Hewitt (1962)

One of the most naturally comfortable and sincere actors who ever graced the stage, big screen or small. My personal tribute:

One of the all time great character actors, and who doesn't remember the scene in "Alien" where he tries to get Ripley's cat and says "Here, kitty" before getting bumped off by the alien? R.I.P. Harry Dean Stanton.

Another member of Kelly's Heroes rides off into that golden sunset. How many are left now? I count three.

He had a damn good run, but selfishly, I'll always want more of him.

RIP, sir.

I think the towering mountain that is Harry Dean Stanton's tv and film career is a mountain Bob DiMucci cannot climb via his poster retrospectives (unless he's still at work on it). wink

Not that I blame him; that's a ton of work to go over and comment on in detail.

Harry Dean Stanton was a magnificent actor.

I like all of Harry Dean's appearances, I'm thinking now of his part in Lynch's Wild at Heart, where he played the henpecked p.i.

He thoroughly deserved a film like Paris Texas, which seemed tailor made for him to star in.
