TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 12

DOWNSIZING---trailer released for the comedy movie starring Matt Damon.

Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZecDLSra28

STAR WARS: EPISODE IX---Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy announced that JJ Abrams (THE FORCE AWAKENS) will replace Colin Trevorrow as the director of EPISODE IX, “With The Force Awakens, J.J. delivered everything we could have possibly hoped for, and I am so excited that he is coming back to close out this trilogy.”
Abrams will co-write the sequel with Chris Terrio (ARGO, BATMAN v SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE).

MIDWAY---Wes Tooke (COLONY) will write the script for the Lionsgate/Roland Emmerich (INDEPENDENCE DAY) movie about the World War II naval battle that was the turning point for the war in the Pacific Theater. The budget is $100 million.

WONDER WOMAN---Patty Jenkins has signed to direct the sequel. Her deal, which is worth $7 million-$9 million plus a sizeable part of the back-end gross, makes her the highest-paid female director in history.

IT---Bill Skarsgard and the child actors will return for the sequel. The child actors will be used in flashback scenes. Director Andy Muschietti commented on Mike Hanlon in the sequel, “I want to make his character the one pivotal character who brings them all together, but staying in Derry took a toll with him. I want him to be a junkie actually. A librarian junkie. When the second movie starts, he’s a wreck…He’s not just the collector of knowledge of what Pennywise has been doing in Derry. He will bear the role of trying to figure out how to defeat him. The only way he can do that is to take drugs and alter his mind."

SUFFER THE LITTLE CHILDREN---movie underway based on the Stephen King short story. Sean Carter (KEEP WATCHING) is the director.

THE IRISHMAN---Jack Huston (BOARDWALK EMPIRE) has joined the cast of the Martin Scorsese biomovie about mob hitman Frank Sheeran who claims to have killed Jimmy Hoffa. Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino, Harvey Keitel, Joe Pesci and Ray Romano also star.

HELLBOY---Daniel Dae Kim (HAWAII FIVE-O) has replaced Ed Skrein who left the reboot movie due to the Whitewashing controversy over the Asian Major Ben Daimio character.

ABACUS: SMALL ENOUGH TO JAIL---Justin Lin will direct a movie based on the documentary about the small family-owned Chinatown bank which was the only bank prosecuted during the 2008 financial crisis while major banks responsible for the crisis went unscathed.

THE GIFTED---Garret Dillahunt (DEADWOOD) will play mutant researcher Roderick Campbell in the Fox X-Men spinoff tv series.

MOOMINS---Rosamund Pike, Kate Winslet and Taron Egerton will provide the voices for this animated movie based on the Finnish fantasy books.

WOODY ALLEN---Jude Law, Liev Schreiber and Diego Luna have the cast of Timothee Chalamet, Elle Fanning and Selena Gomez in Allen's latest movie.

As the film opens, Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto is lying on a bed in a hotel in Tokyo, with a radio playing "The End". "Tokyo! Kuso! I'm still only in Tokyo! Every time I think I'm gonna wake up on the deck of the Yamato..."

I can't wait for the coming years when even the staunchest of the current defenders will admit that current CGI is nothing more than a 3D rendition of a painting of average quality. Until then they will tirelessly roll out their standard rebuttal that those who complain about the current low quality of CGI SFX only do so to be recalcitrant snobs.

I hear you. But for a movie of this scale and with the paucity of SBD's, TBD's, Avengers, Vals, Zeroes, etc., what alternatives do we have other than models?

So we now know the next Star Wars film will be a remake of Return of the Jedi.

Ah, whatever, but the CGI recreation of Charlton Heston for this should be excellent.

You mean . . . Ben Hur will actually ride against an ape-hogging charioteer, having been sucked up in a space-time vortex in pursuit of the lost Ark Of The Covenant and deposited on the upside-down, madhouse planet which we blew up, thereby leaving posterity in the paws of damned dirty apes - but being an Omega man, he gets to blow it up all over again - all in super HD?

Can't wait!

Yes! But only after determining the source of Soylent Green!

SOYLENT GREEN, LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE, IS MADE OUTTA POXY PIXELS MAPPED ONTO THE OUTER SURFACE OF BLACK HOLES IN THE HOLOGRAM UNIVERSE!

But everyone knows that, of course.
