So here he is, two years old and ready for his four mile morning stroll.

And after his four mile stroll,

Joan, I hate to admit this, but you could be right.

Max is a very demanding dog, but the breed are renowned for being stubborn and quite difficult to manage.

We weren't doing too badly until Christmas 2016 when I was asked to introduce him to a Springer Spaniel which I was assured was a very friendly dog. Sadly the assurances were false and the Springer bit Max through his nose and cheek before I could drag poor Max away. This has left him with a distrust of other dogs, which makes walks a trifle difficult. I walk him on a Halti, with a short lead and he walks beautifully, head against my right thigh, doesn't pull, in fact he's the easiest dog I've ever walked, until we meet another dog and then he has a character change and switches to guard dog mode, which can be difficult to control.

So I find myself out in the (very) early hours of the morning trying to get a four or six mile walk in, when there are no other dogs around.

He weighs in at just over 100lbs and is immensely powerful, so you don't want to get involved with a wrestling match with him.

This is him this morning, just after we returned home.

With our two shepherd cross labs waiting for their turn.

I've been told that it'll take at least three years to get him to trust other dogs again, so I'm being patient and working on it.

He can be hard work, but he's worth it.

I am glad he is worth all of your hard work. So sad that the spaniel bit him. I didn't realize that you had two other dogs. Does he play with or trust your other two shepherd cross labs?

If you are walking all three of them separately, you must be a marathon walker. That is a lot of work. Keep telling us about your dog. Very interesting.

Max and the Shepherds are the best of friends, at night the three of them like to curl up on our bed with us.

It does get a trifle cramped at times.

We probably need a bigger bed. smile

It is good that they get along. If the bed is too small, you could toss your wife out of the bed and put her on the floor. However, no husband is THAT idiotic. wink

A cat was spotted early this morning.

The look that says everything.

He looks like a big sweetie. Is he good with strangers and guests (people I mean)?

Couldn't ask for a better dog as far as people and are concerned. He's just not good with other dogs or cats.

He really loves the Grandchildren; when he found little Harrison, exhausted after running around the house for hours, asleep on the floor, he just stretched out and slept alongside him until he woke up.

It's great Max gets along so well with people...
