I haven't even gotten to the second disc with HEMMINGWAY'S ADVENTURES OF A YOUNG MAN, but I must say the PEYTON PLACE CD sounds better than ever! I must also say, in this age of "I want every note of [whatever] score," this RCA edit of the PEYTON PLACE score was possibly one of the finest film music condensations ever released. Every highlight is here, and the flow from track to track is brilliant. I'm sure there are some cues missing, but I really don't miss them.

It's an absolutely wonderful listen.

Thanks, La La Land!

I keep asking, does this release still have the RCA album reverb.
both of these films should have an up and down mono track reverb.
couldn't they have been used for the missing music?

I so adore the Varese, so I'm kind of resisting this purchase. I'm planning on watching the Hemingway movie soon, so I imagine I'll change my mind.

The opening is great, but there's a lot gone from the rest of the film. But the opening will convince you to buy it!

BETTER than the Varese? I love that CD!

And I agree, the only score by the incredible Waxman I like at least as much is Rebecca.

Seriously !!! There is no comparison between the Varese and the original RCA soundtrack. the Fox orchestra plays with great style, something completely missing on the Varese.

Were the lp versions in stereo? And how about the new cd versions. And yes, though I find the rerecording fine in it's own right there s nothing like the Fox orchestra under the baton of Franz Waxman or Alfred Newman. Especially those strings!

I have both RCA LPs and both say stereo.

PEYTON PLACE and ADVENTURES OF A YOUNG MAN are excellent in stereo with PEYTON PLACE being the more memorable of the two.

SO glad to have this glorious music on CD. These are two of the best Americana film scores, though I wonder why two movies that exhibit such spectacular scenic vistas feature such dismal cover art.
