Henry

Another European here (even though we are leaving the EU), I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the concert, the arrangements of the Morricone pieces, the playing and singing especially the solo female voice (was it Megan?) and the male voice on the opening HAWKS AND SPARROWS but also the very funny commentary by Bruce Kimmel. My highlights were probably DEDICATO AL MARE EGEO and the RINGO songs. I would have liked to hear the solo female vocal along with the trumpet on COSE AVETE FATTO A SOLANGE.
Don't be too disappointed about the lack of response from your fellow Americans, you know Henry we should be used to that. Morricone's music is just generally too different, too quirky compared to the more traditional Hollywood scores. Ofcause there are some exceptions to this. Also very few of his Italian movies (which contain many of his finest scores) are ever shown here in the UK and I am sure this is the same in the US, so people do not have the chance to take in his music in the movies they were written for. These comments could be used for many of the European composers. For me it's not that important to take in the movies these scores were written for, the music can stand on it's own. But I know it is very important for a lot of folks here to see the films, one never gets the chance with a lot of these European movies unless you are ready to splash out on dvd's.

Really you deserve some kind of an Oscar for your continued attempts to promote Ennio's music among film music fans, well done Henry and thanks again for a really enjoyable concert and highlighting some of Morricone's lesser known works.

Wow! I almost missed your reaction here. Indeed Americans are an uphill battle. But I remember it was uphill to get many to listen to Goldsmith (not mainstream stuff but the obscure great pieces). Damn, trying to get Williams fans to listen to THE FURY was like pulling teeth. So I will continue to spread the gospel according Ennio and some of it has to seep through somewhere. Indeed Maegan McConnell (my Edda!), Robert Yacko and Bruce Kimmel have been indispensable assets to doing just that. Special mention to Tom Griep who makes it all happen.

It is with a sigh of relief that I listen to your melodious praise for mainly this incredibly talented group. There is so much more to choose from and if I had more ways to finance I might be able to keep this going.

Mondo thanks!

Americans don't respond, they just eat fatty meats and tell us all what words are no longer acceptable. And to them I say phut.

Indeed. Sometimes I think current film music is like the equivalent of McDonalds. It must be comforting to know exactly what you are going to get every time. No surprises.

BTW At my age I am superstitious about using the word phut. I sense I may have one phut in the grave already.

Henry, might I ask what the gold item is in the jewellery box, third picture, sitting on the Venice box?

THAT is a Straightline collectible FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE watch that plays the "sixty seconds to what?" chime from that film. BTW to the right of it are E&Ms (M&Ms with Morricone's image on half of them and his name on the other).

Thank you Henry, hugely enjoyable !
Never heard the 'Hamlet' score....must get a copy.

Thank you Leo! I think I heard of you by another name but can't recall. ;-)

Again HAMLET is a bit of a dour score but it's best moments are primo Ennio and Sara does them full justice. And each year I bring something to her she has never done before. This time it was IL LADRONE which was a bouncy hit.

Thank you for listening. These things have been labors of love for a long time now, the only things that have stopped my soundtrack expenditures for brief periods each year. THAT says everything.
