Finally nabbed a copy of this one. Thanks, Varese!

The only copy I have is the 1997 release by Varese, at 20 tracks. I'm assuming this release would be worth the upgrade?

Kritzerland reissued half of the scores in the box set -- the ones not held by Varese in perpetuity (minus Blue Denim, because the fine FSM is still available). All of the rest are held by Varese forever, so I'm really glad to see they have an interested in making the remaining remasters/expansions available to people again, albeit in very limited 500 copy fashion (did they not notice the Kritzerlands sell out at 1000 copies each?)

Very very smart, and nice, of Varese to do this, and I hope they keep it up.

Ordered, but how I wish it was 'The Ghost and Mrs. Muir', that is a score that I think is one of Herrmann's very best. I sure wish it will be released next in this series, surely Varese would easily sell 500 of those, if not 1000, easily.

Nice news to discover this morning. Immediately ordered. Thanks, Varese.

Now, I can only hope that Varese is planning something like this for PLANET OF THE APES on its 50th anniversary next year (actually recorded in late December 1967)? An audio upgrade with digital restoration by Mike Matessino would also be nice, though I won't get my hopes up too much, but Varese has to know it would be worth it.

I too am hoping for a Planet of the Apes celebration at Varese.

I ordered as well. And am eagerly awaiting a release of The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. IMO Herrmann's most beautiful score.

Isn't this the only Herrmann fantasy score not to be re- recorded in full? I am aware that Herrmann recorded a suite. Anyone know why that was the case besides money? Was there plans to re-recorded the score?

Is this one of the titles Varese has in perpetuity? Kritzerland didn't reissue it from the Herrmann boxset.

BTW, Kim, the Varese 500 Series is by definition straight reissues of existing programs (albeit sometimes remastered) -- hence the low quantity -- hopefully, Varese will have more exciting expansions lined up in their next Club Series release.

Yavar,

I just found a list that you posted awhile back. Why do they not release these titles if they own them for eternity? Admitting I would only be interested in about a 1/4 of the titles, why not try one of these, but they are going after a quick sellout/fast money. Must need some fast cash to put out the underfunded Killer Clowns release.

If titles never before available on CD are eligible for this series (I'm assuming there isn't going to be another LP to CD box), here is the list of what Varese LPs remain to be reissued:

STV 81117 Blood And Sand - Alfred Newman / Golden Earrings - Victor Young
STV 81137 Prince Of The City - Paul Chihara
STV 81159 The Twelve Chairs - John Morris
STV 81163 Slapstick (Of Another Kind) - Morton Stevens, Michel Legrand
STV 81164 Eating Raoul - Arlon Ober
STV 81186 Young Warriors - Robert J. Walsh
STV 81210 Blame It On Rio - Kenneth Wannberg
STV 81222 The Fourth Man - Loek Dikker
STV 81224 Swann In Love - Hans Werner Henze / Verlorene Ehre Der Katharina Blum
STV 81229 Places In The Heart - John Kander
STV 81232 The Flamingo Kid - Curt Sobel
STV 81239 Certain Fury - George Masenburg, Russell Kunkel, Bill Payne
STV 81243 The Gods Must Be Crazy - John Bosshoff
STV 81245 Christopher Columbus - Riz Ortolani
STV 81247 Just The Way You Are - Vladimir Cosma / Wetherby - Nick Bicât
STV 81251 Dance With A Stranger - Richard Hartley
STV 81255 Ediths Tagebuch - Jürgen Knieper
STV 81258 Paroles Et Musique - Michel Legrand
STV 81259 The Red Pony - Aaron Copland
STV 81265 Marie - Francis Lai
STV 81281 Ewoks: Caravan of Courage, an Ewok Adventure/ The battle for Endor - Peter Bernstein
STV 81303 Firewalker - Gary Chang
STV 81305 Down Twisted - Eric Allaman
STV 81307 The Bedroom Window - Michael Shrieve, Patrick Gleeson
STV 81309 From The Hip - Paul Zaza
STV 81319 Three For The Road - Barry Goldberg
STV 81321 Capriccio - Riz Ortolani
STV 81336 Nowhere To Hide - Brad Fiedel

Varese just reissued "Down Twisted" in their "We Hear You" series, and Intrada did "The Red Pony."

Varese isn't necessarily just sitting on all of these. There are surely rights issues we don't know on some of them.

"Ewoks: Caravan of Courage" is a highlight on that list, a fantastic score by Peter Bernstein!

The old release was not a good representation of the score though. It needs an expanded release.

There's no way Varèse is just sitting on a "Star Wars" score, however esoteric. I can't pretend to have any idea as to why this hasn't emerged on CD, whether Varèse continues to hold the rights, and whether Lucasfilm is even interested in revisiting these TV movies in ancillary markets. But it can't be absent because Varèse hasn't thought of it.
