@Jon Broxton

thank you for the great review, one of your very best, so beautifully written and so eloquent in the musical analisys dept.
Really a worthy homage to this music that, 30 years on, still has me in awe just like the first time I heard it, watching the movie in the theatre.
I own every release of it, and on the account of the furtherly improved sound, there is no doubt I will get this new one too.

Just received my copy. Even having the BSX edition with Hellbound I bought this one for the reported improved mix.

After doing some A/B comparison, it may be just me ... but I'm a bit disapointed with the new mix.

Maybe it its because I'm used with the BSX mix, but the new mix seems to have more reverb added and somehow the previous album mix sounds more clean and defined.

I also love the piano in this score and it seems mixed at a lower level in the new mix (and the reverb seems specially enhanced in the piano parts that now have a kind of echo). Compare the begining of the track 7 (Seduction and Pursuit) and Track 8 (In Love's Name), for example, in the new mix the music seems distant and with lots of reverb (that drowns some of the details).

It remain a great soundtrack, but I'd like to understand from those praising the new mix which aspect of it would be an improvement over the previous (maybe it has more dinamic range?).

I think It's a matter of personal taste, but I'll keep listening to the older mix (and the BSX product still seems superior with its jewel case instead of digipack, liner notes (that the 30th anniversary does not have) [and the sequel score as a bonus].

Thank you very much for more info about the sound quality.
You have saved my money.

Maybe you should listen to it in Spotify before you make your decision. I understand that Chris Young is happy with this new mix so I dont want to discorage you to purchase it.

For me it seems more distant and less defined/reverby, but I'm curious about the opinion of those who did liked this new version mix better (and are familiar with the previous) on which aspects it may be superior to the previous. It seems that it has more dinamic range.

I prefer the sound of the new one. That doesn't mean I think it is "better" as such – it's just significantly different. Some people might prefer the brighter, more immediate sound of the BSX, and others will like the more laid back, smoother presentation of the new one. The BSX definitely has more bite to the sound and anyone wanting to hear as much detail as possible will be happier with that one. But to my ears, the new release offers a a good amount of respite from the edginess that has always spoiled this soundtrack for me. Listened from beginning to end, I find the 30th Anniversary Edition is significantly less brash-sounding and is more pleasing to me overall.
