Does anyone know if this project is still ongoing or abandoned ? Guiseppe Tornatore was supposed to have directed the film with music by Ennio Morricone. Sergio Leone had it lined up before his untimely death in 1989.
I remember looking forward to a foreign film about the battle of Stalingrad, called "Stalingrad," a few years ago, and it wound up not being released, or else disappointing at the box office.
Impressive-looking trailer, but apparently they saved all the good shots for the trailer and the rest was a disappointment.

Looks like there was also a WWII film about Leningrad with Mira Sorvino, (AKA "Attack on Leningrad") but no Morricone project I know of. "Stalingrad" had music by Badalamenti.
