Well, if they want it to sound like Vangelis, they'll need to bring Ben Wallfisch along.

Actually I'm quite excited. A synthesizer score รก la Vangelis by Zimmer, adding his melodic approach would definitely fit this film. However it's not necessarily what he will deliver. Still, I'm looking forward to it!

Good news. I'm sure Zimmer can nail this one pretty well.....Still using Johannsson's theme apparently.

I'd prefer a Vangelis return but Zimmer seems a natural choice.

So, Zimmer's scoring it, even though the director said he's collaborating with Wallfisch, even though Johann's theme is good enough to still use, just not the rest of his score, even though apparently he's still involved in some capacity.

Nothing but the best cluster-fuck for this long-awaited sequel.

Maybe next Danny Saber can lay some beats over it.

Who knows what Zimmer will put together. Anything is possible. All I'll say is that he hasn't disappointed 100% of the time. Sometimes he surprises. Sometimes.

Honestly, I'm not hopeful. I don't think he has the finesse that we saw from Vangelis in the original. Not even close. At some point in the film, he's going to feel the need to shove the score down our throats. I have to admit, I was slightly more hopeful BEFORE Zimmer's involvement.

I'd also strongly prefer Vangelis to return, and I think the average "Blade Runner" fan would too, so if they're switching/adding composers I'm not sure why they don't just cave in and get Vangelis. There must be somebody at WB who really doesn't want that.

That said, Hans Zimmer isn't a bad fit for "Blade Runner." And maybe Zimmer himself will insist on collaborating with Vangelis on a few cues? That seems like something Zimmer might do...

Under ordinary circumstances, I'd be cautiously optimistic about this - so much of Zimmer's post-Batman output has felt like a love letter to Vangelis, and if ever there was a film that seemed suited for his architecture-and-soundscapes-first, character-and-narrative-a-distant-second approach, it's a Blade Runner movie. But the idea that he's doing this with new favorite co-composer, on top of a theme left behind by Johannson, in addition to whatever Vangelis material they'll inevitably reprise - well good god, that sounds like chaos. I know Zimmer loves collaboration, but the original Blade Runner score was so special in part because it was so clearly one person's intuitive response to this awe-inspiring world. I know the new film has to be its own thing, but I don't know what chance it has of casting its own coherent identity under these circumstances.

Also, I still think this film should have been called Blade Funner. I feel very strongly about this.

So, what was the deal with Vangelis? Was he not asked? Did he not want to do it? Was the director too attached (at least until May) to his previous collaborative composer?

I'd really like to know how the decision came about to not use Vangelis. Was he not interested? Supposedly he is retired, or semi-retired. Was he asked and couldn't be convinced to do it? Was Ridley Scott or the director not interested in going back to Vangelis? Did WB nix the idea? I mean, who in their right mind would think that Vangelis should not return to this world. His contribution to the success of Blade Runner CANNOT be understated. The hardcore fans of the original film KNOW how instrumental (no pun intended) Vangelis' score was to the success of the movie!

I don't know....the movie, the score....I think it's highly unlikely that those involved will be able to match the magic that is the first film.

Since Zimmer has been touring for the past 3 months and will continue to do so for a while longer it is obviously going to be Wallfisch mostly working on the score... which is not a bad thing if he is given any actual freedom...

I thought we were suppose to guess...
With that premise in mind, how about "The Crystal Method" duo who scored some of JJ Abrams "Almost Human" ["Lethal Weapon" with android partner] TVshow?
