I received a notification that Amazon now has the listing for the 'CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND' 40TH Anniversary Edition Blu-ray available for Pre-Order. Date of Sept. 19th.
I've held off buying the Blu-ray of this title because of various concerns about the transfers of all the prior editions. This promises to be interesting. And to think that 40 years ago, I got to The Cinerama Dome Theater in Hollywood around 6:00 in the morning to be, (around), the 10th or so person in line for the first showing.

A terrific film, such wonderful Douglas Trumbull effects, a couple of things in there haunted me as a kid.

That must be have been quite a show at The Dome.

Don't like Henry, you'll be pitching tent and camping at the front door the night before. wink

There's a 4K giftset due for release in the UK. I'll probably opt for this.

The browser racks are quite awful. I don't buy from them if I can help it. Most of the releases I see are usually damaged in some way.

Has anyone had a chance to view and make comparisons from the new 4K release to the blu-ray? The DVD Beaver review left me hesitant to indulge in obtaining it. In toggling back and forth to the screen capture comparsions I actually felt that the blu-ray looked better, and further, if the specs provided were accurate, that the audio mix for the 4K was inexplicably downgraded, not even ported over, if what DVD Beaver provided was so. The reviewer was "underwhelmed" by the new release according to him.

Gary Tooze hasn't been worth a damn to me since he declaired the awful There Will Be Blood dvd "surprisingly filmlike" in 2008. Take his reviews with a whole salt shaker.

Waiting on more review sites to have a look at it, such as blu-ray.com, among others. I did see the 40th Anniversary release theatrically, and noticed an abundant amount of grain, perhaps more than I expected. On the other hand I would not want it scrubbed with DNR, although there could possibly been a happy balance. All dependant I realize on the source materials I understand. I do enjoy the 30th Anniversary blu-ray, but was naturally pretty enthused and keen about the UHD being announced.
