Okay, it wasn't the highlight of the evening but it was certainly very good: Ennio Morricone's Immobile #2 per armonica a bocca e 12 archi, lasting a little over 10 minutes, played by Gianluca Littera, harmonica with members of the Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto, conducted by Marco Angius. Location: Latina, Italy Date: Sat 15 Jul 17 (from 21:15 hrs approx. - open air) Part of the festival Pontino di Musica 2017, the piece was sandwiched between Haydn's superb composition Adagio e Minuetto variato (dalla Sonata #3 per violino e basso) as arranged for cello by Goffredo Petrassi ... truly excellent playing by Michele Marco Rossi, violoncello ... and Beethoven's marvellous Symphony #7, Op.92. The leaflet/brochure listed the Morricone piece as from 2001 but the style seemed more reminiscent of earlier works and, upon research, I find it derives from his classical work of that name listed as 1978 in www.chimai.com. Far more melodic than some of his other non-film work which I have (I wouldn't be surprised to find that it started life as film music), I'd be happy to add a recording to my library. My thanks to our Italian cousins who noticed the concert listing earlier in the day and, knowing my love for the Maestro's works, suggested we attend. A lovely evening ... Mitch
