When I saw the topic about The Killing Of Sister George, I thought that maybe that was the movie I vaguely remember seeing that had a lovely score. Wrong movie. However, I knew Susannah York was in this “vaguely” remembered movie and started my research. It was THE GOLDEN GATE MURDERS starring David Janssen and York with a score by Sol Kaplan. I found the movie on youtube.

I remember it being a mystery and a romance between a detective and a nun. The love theme played especially at the end is just gorgeous.

While I think my chances are very minimal, does anyone know if this score was ever released on CD? Does anyone else remember this TV movie?

The score has not been released. Given that the 1979 television film is from Universal, if the music hasn't been lost in some vault fire, it's probably pretty low on everyone's priority list for a release.

Hi Bob,

I was hoping you would arrive with some pictures. Thank you.

I am also sure it isn't on anyone's priority list but mine. I just remember that while watching the movie, I noticed a lovely love theme. I had hopes that it might have at the very least been included in some compilation. I guess youtube will have to suffice.

Well I'd buy it. Kaplan is an excellent and underrated composer.

I doubt we'll ever see this score, Yavar. And I admit that know very few of his scores. Shame on me.

The tagline on that black & white ad is glorious(ly cheesy). Love those old 70's TV movies--and, yes, their scores.

A good film that had humour & action I enjoyed it, a lot of B movies fail this one had quality, only flaw was that they were all voice dubbed, this wasn't the case on early video release I had it.

A very-good score from Kaplan, the Kill scenes had Church organ, French tromborne, Harpsichord, horns, the more pleasant music Harp Piano, Oboe, Sax Etc.

It will take a major effort to restore this film, music, however todays technology, BR-4K that shouldn't be a big problem.
