Jim Phelps is correct about this place not being the best to discuss Vittorio Storaro. Or any Cinematographer who isn't affiliated with Marvel Films, or the like. Last year I was surprised that Vittorio Storaro's name wasn't included in the list of nominees for Best Cinematography in The Oscar Race for his absolutely stunning camerawork with gorgeous indoor / outdoor lighting for 'Cafe Society'. 'Cafe Society' had it's charms, and I did like it, but it wasn't what I'd consider one of Woody Allen's best efforts. Still, the camerawork by Mr. Storaro was clearly a loving, magnificent effort in capturing the times of an early Los Angeles . His efforts didn't translate into an Oscar nomination however, which was a sad oversight. My favorite films of his NOT to get an Oscar nomination were for '1900', as well as, 'The Conformist' and, 'The Sheltering Sky'.
While I agree with my fellow Woody fan Montana Dave regarding Cafe Society's snub, I can't take the Oscars seriously at all, especially since Woody himself never has. Sure, the awards are gaudy, idiotic, and political fun, but it's a badge of honor NOT to be nominated *cue Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas musical dance number*
