This month's Happy Birthday shout-out goes to one of the most highly recognised cinematographers in the world, the legendary Vittorio Storaro, who turns 77 on June 24th. Check it out: http://thecinemacafe.com/the-cinema-treasure-hunter/2017/6/1/now-listen-to-me#Vittorio-Storaro

Tragically, the FSM Boarde is no place to discuss this great artist's fine work.

See?

Where were you, Arthur? wink

Anyway, there's a great article in the link above.

Jim Phelps is correct about this place not being the best to discuss Vittorio Storaro. Or any Cinematographer who isn't affiliated with Marvel Films, or the like.
Last year I was surprised that Vittorio Storaro's name wasn't included in the list of nominees for Best Cinematography in The Oscar Race for his absolutely stunning camerawork with gorgeous indoor / outdoor lighting for 'Cafe Society'. 'Cafe Society' had it's charms, and I did like it, but it wasn't what I'd consider one of Woody Allen's best efforts. Still, the camerawork by Mr. Storaro was clearly a loving, magnificent effort in capturing the times of an early Los Angeles . His efforts didn't translate into an Oscar nomination however, which was a sad oversight. My favorite films of his NOT to get an Oscar nomination were for '1900', as well as, 'The Conformist' and, 'The Sheltering Sky'.

While I agree with my fellow Woody fan Montana Dave regarding Cafe Society's snub, I can't take the Oscars seriously at all, especially since Woody himself never has. Sure, the awards are gaudy, idiotic, and political fun, but it's a badge of honor NOT to be nominated *cue Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas musical dance number*
