I've just been thinking it's now very nearly two years since James Horner's death. I'm less intense about it now, it feels a little less raw. This year I think I will be mostly listening to 'Living in the Age of Airplanes', and remembering him fondly.
I still feel a twinge when I realize nothing new is forthcoming from him. I have a "memorial playlist" that I listen to around the anniversary of his passing.
Horner took on smaller scale feature films and did away with those electronic keyboards (he felt he was being "typed" by the use of them in "Titanic") and stuck with the orchestra. It's a shame that "For Greater Glory" The True Story Of Crisnada" was never nominated for an Oscar, because it was one of his last and one of his best. It's a pity that he died while flying and crashed his plane.
I have a playlist called "Late Horner" with highlights from LIVING IN THE AGE OF AIRPLANES, COLLAGE, and THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN, and just listened to it the other day. Man, he was at the top of his game when he died. I'm still hoping for a cd release of LIVING IN THE AGE OF AIRPLANES which is really magnificent. Intrada, perhaps?
Nothing new has surfaced regarding a CD release since the film's director mentioned he was in talks with a label to release the album physically. That was coinciding with the home release which was almost a year ago.
