1970-71 West Ham United and 1971-72 Leeds United team photos.

"When the world was young..."

Oh, and since I couldn't locate one for Pewl, this team photo from 1979-80 will have to do.

I see that twat ex-BBC studio drone Alan Hansen was on the team that year... wink

One notable omission from that team photo is one Edwin "Eddie" Gray, the most skillful British player of the late 60s/early 70s. That he wasn't able to complete most seasons due to injury is testament to the lengths other teams would go to to get him out of the game.

In fact, when this photo was taken he was probably on the treatment table following the injury sustained in the 1970 FA Cup final replay, when Chelsea's entire game plan was predicated on Ron "Chopper" Harris crippling him at the earliest possible opportunity. "Fancy Dans"? Dirty, cheating West London scumbags, more like.

Hear hear.
Surprised harris got anywhere near Gray given he would likely had been booted by bremner first, stud-scraped up the calf by Johnny Giles or had his feet stamped on so he couldnt jump at corners by jack charlton!!! wink

Was there ever a better or more intelligent reader of the game than Johnny Giles (what brilliant passes!) & nobody in the history of the game (or the world!) could kick the ball harder than Peter Lorimer. What a brilliant team, although they did underachieve & were no choirboys.

Hullo,

There was something about football on the telly the other day here. England vs. Scotland, in Majorca (?). The news didn't show much of the game (was there one?), but there was some coverage of people throwing chairs at each other in the street. I think that that's because it probably ended in a draw (?), and therefore the youthful frustrations had to be vented in much the same way as when one team wins and the other team loses, or when one team loses and the other one wins. The ref was probably blind anyway or something.

And in other news, there was quite a lot about how Rafa Nadal is the most gentlemanly of all football players. He beat the whole of Roger Federer's team on his own, then just lay on the grass chilling out. No punching his opponents, and no chair-throwing from his family of well-behaved supporters in the street cafés.

There's a lesson for us all in there.

You are Sam Peckinpah and I claim my half a million dollars in damages, to be donated to the Fielding (American) Football Club.

(Fielding, Utah, USA - Population, estimated June 2017: 455 persons - Fielding American Football Club: Number of active players, estimated June 2017: 3, category under-12, donations welcome)

INTERCEPTED BY SPACESHIP - AVISO - "Graham, are you sure it wasn't the other way round?"

ANSWER - Ah, possibly! Anyway, you can tell all those nutmeg sports fans to get back to their pigs' bladders. I'm outta here, thankfully. Goodbye and good riddance to bad rubbish.

If Cristiano Ronaldo is sent to prison along with Lionel Messi for tax evasion, they could be cellmates and the greatest reality/superhero movie of all time could be born.
