If anyone has discussed this, I certainly missed it:

Can't wait to see this! First showing in very limited engagement in theaters, then a 2-DVD release on unspecified date in the future.

Yeah, there have been a couple of threads about it already:

As I said in the first thread, the film will be screened at the Oslo Pix festival here in Norway on the 12th of June. I'll be moderating a panel after the screening with Norwegian composers Gaute Storaas and Henrik Skram.

Those are Tall Guy's favorite composers. He can even pronounce their name!

My name was in the credits, too! I saw it at the Louisiana International Film Festival in Baton Rouge this past April. Wonderful film. Just hearing some of the famous themes played in it gave me goosebumps. The tribute to James Horner during the end credits was superb, as well.

Hope this plays in Boston...it'd be the first documentary I've seen in theaters since De Palma.

I signed up for this documentary March 2015 and they keep holding off sending me my DVD and T shirt because of these showings. I didn't expect to wait more than two years.

It is frustrating to be sure. It's great that this is getting wider promotion and exposure, but why not get the DVDs and Blu-rays oit at the same time?

Film Festivals usually require that the films shown there have not been released on DVD yet.

They claim that it would cut into ticket sales and DVD sales. It's a joke. At some point this turned into a commercial endeavor for the creators. They don't actually care about the people who funded it.

How dare they want people to go and see their documentary.

Because we are the ones who helped get the ball rolling. I am not asking for them not to show it at film festivals but to honor their commitments to those who paid for the damn thing to begin with!!!

This is exactly the same thing that happened with the crowd-funded DVD of "The Wrecking Crew" (doc about the ace group of session musicians who played on a large percentage of the rock hits from the late 50s through the early 70s, unbeknownst to consumers at the time). In that case, the additional funds gained from showing the film first (before we funders received our copies) in theaters and special events proved advantageous, in that it allowed the producers to pay royalties for more of the group's songs than would otherwise have been possible, thus adding to the breadth of the documentary. I don't know if there are similar considerations at play in the case of SCORE, but in my case, when finally received, I considered it well worth the wait, for the additional bonus material included in the final product. It was several months later in arriving than originally promised, however. Think long-term: Without your funding support it wouldn't have happened at all, and once it arrives you'll have it to enjoy for many years to come.

I understand the criticism from the crowdfunders. I have seen some of the documentary at the Krakow Film Music Festival. I had to leave after 20 minutes but those minutes were pretty great!

That documentary would not have seen the light without the support from the backers. But yeah, I also agree with that it should be made available already to the crowdfunders.

Hosting a temporary, password-only stream of the film isn't perfect, but it's what other filmmakers have done in similar situations.

Thank you < Dana and all the other "groupies" who made this amazing film happen.
I have watched it three times, including the bonus interviews.
I had a vague knowledge of TWR as the musicians who played on Phil Spector records (Jack Nitzche for example), but I was flabbergasted to learn that they, not the Beach Boys, played on "California Girls, PET SOUNDS etc.!

Luv you guys!

Saw SCORE yesterday at the Oslo Pix film festival, and liked it a LOT. It sure pushes all the right button for us film score fans, although it didn't really contain a lot of information that would be new to most us. But definitely new to me was some of the composers' collection of REALLY weird instruments. Marco Beltrami's valley-spanning(!) piano? Never seen that before!

And of course it's always satisfying to see one's favorite genre of music being treated with this much enthusiasm and respect. There were lots of movie clips with defining moments in film music history, and a lot of the current top-name composers are interviewed (a few via archival clips). Loved the extensive section on Williams, the movies he's scored and his influence - and how musicians love to play his music!

Icing on the cake was the Thor-moderated after-film panel with composers Gaute Storaas and Henrik Skram, where they discussed the movie and the differences - and similarities - between the Norwegian/Scandinavian/European film music scene and the Hollywood one depicted in the movie.

A great evening!

I'll echo Nils' sentiments.

There was a whole, 20-minute "mini movie" with and about John Williams in the middle there, which I thought was cute (even if the interviews with him were all archival), but some of the audience members reacted to the extensive treatment at the cost of everyone else.

I also have some minor issues with the very American angle to film music history, like when Chris Young said KING KONG was the score that made people aware of the power of orchestral music in film. Obviously, there's a LONG history prior to KING KONG with orchestral music, both in Europe and the US. The film conveniently skipped over this two-decade silent film era and its many great symphonic scores.

Be that as it may, I applaud the 'missionary' quality of the movie (in regards to the Hollywood film score) -- aiming for a wider audience than film score fans, and hopefully getting a few more converted along the way.
