This is pretty serious stuff as the decision would not have been taken lightly (I think it is only the third time the UK's security status has been elevated to critical, once as a reaction to 9/11, the other I'm not sure about but possibly after the July '05 bombings. Clearly, for the recommendation to be made by to the government by the Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre means that there must be substantive intelligence out there to suggest further terrorist attacks are probable. And certainly, with a General Election imminent, it would certainly be likely that ISIS or whoever are planning something possibly major. As the senior member of my firm in charge of risk management, it falls to me to deal with contingency planning in case my company is affected by any terrorist acts (unlikely we would be a direct target but as all bar one of our offices are in major cities - and our head office shares a building with Anglia TV which could be a viable target - we need to be cautious). Part of this is training staff on awareness, something I am not looking forward to as it is a very emotive subject and one that is hard to convey without looking like panic-mongering. It is pretty essential stuff these days, however. So please everyone, be careful out there people.
