TUESDAY, MAY 23

STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI---four covers for VANITY FAIR were released.

DARK UNIVERSE---Universal Pictures released the logo for Dark Universe, its rebooted monster movie franchise, and a photo of its current stars: Russell Crowe, Javier Bardem, Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp and Sofia Boutella.

GAME OF THRONES---photos released from Season 7 include Daenerys on her dragon and Jon Snow.

PINOCCHIO---Sam Mendes (SKYFALL) is in talks to direct the live-action remake of the classic 1940 Walt Disney Pictures animated movie.

POTTERSVILLE---Michael Shannon stars in this Netflix dramedy movie described as, “The film follows a local business man (Shannon) who is mistaken for the mythical creature Bigfoot after a wild night of drinking, tossing on a gorilla costume and staggering through the woods makes him an internet sensation. The event sparks international media attention and reinvigorates a small town’s economy, as the business man grapples with revealing the truth.” Ian McShane, Christina Hendricks and Ron Perlman also star.

EVENT HORIZON---director Paul WS Anderson said a director's cut of the 1997 outer space horror movie isn't possible because the deleted scenes have been lost, “There was a lot more that was shot that isn’t in the movie. But you’ll never see the messed up version because we made EVENT before the kind of DVD revolution. You know, DVD ushered in this era when you had to have additional footage, deleted scenes, things like that.
There was no call for that back when we were just doing VHS cassettes and LaserDiscs. So the material just wasn’t archived very well, and since the movie became a big cult classic, Paramount has asked us to come back in and do different versions and we looked for the material, and it just doesn’t exist.”
The movie was cut down to 95 minutes from 130 minutes. The most notable deleted scene is the "bloody orgy" scene which was the Event Horizon's video log going mad. The scene showed gory mutilations and used real-life amputees, porn stars, accident victims and special effects.

SPACEBALLS 2---Mel Brooks commented on a sequel to his 1997 STAR WARS spoof movie, “MGM is slightly interested in doing it because of STAR WARS: ROGUE ONE and THE FORCE AWAKENS and the new STAR WARS explosion. So they think maybe, so we’re talking, who knows.” Bill Pullman, John Candy, Rick Moranis and Daphne Zuniga starred in the original movie.

JUSTICE LEAGUE---Zack Snyder has left the movie to cope with his daughter's suicide two months ago. Joss Whedon will replace Snyder and direct the post-production.

UNCHARTED---Tom Holland will play Nathan Drake in the movie based on the video game.

THE LITTLE STRANGERS---Domhnall Gleeson and Charlotte Rampling star in this supernatural movie about a doctor in post-World War II England who visits an old estate where the family is haunted by an evil ghost.

THE LEOPARD--tv miniseries underway based on the novel by Giuseppe Tomasa di Lampedusa. The 1963 Luchino Visconti movie based on the novel starred Claudia Cardinale and Burt Lancaster.

GUANTANAMO---Oliver Stone will direct episodes of this tv series underway focusing on the terrorist suspects in the Guantanamo Bay detention camp.

HEIST---untitled heist movie underway starring Rihanna and Lupita Nyong'o which reportedly involves two black women, a master criminal and a computer hacker, who target rich white men. Ava DuVernay is the director.

Ladies and gentlemen we have the real-life Eli Cross here.

Event Horizon should be entirely buried, dreadful film. The score is worth saving but that is it. Extended cut? Thank goodness the film is lost. WS Anderson made one film that I tolerate, actually rather like, and that is the 2011 The Three Musketeers. I know it is garbage, but I like it.

Just when I thought I have the hard the worst idea ever for a reboot or remake (are there no actual writers anymore); Dune, Bladerunner, Lion King, Dumbo - yeah, I think Pinocchio is a pretty bad idea. Although the Guy Ritchie directed version of Lion King should be a real mess, what with all the slow motion lion fist fights and blood splatters.

I don't get how Anderson has a career. I guess Mortal Kombat was cute for what it was, and for its audience. But Event Horizon was rubbish, Soldier just demonstrated that he doesn't have the talent as the guys whose films he grew up watching, Resident Evil -- well, for an action-horror flick it lacks both thrills and chills --, AvP was awful . . . I'll never understand why his films tend to find an audience. Oh well. Plenty of others out there to watch.

Probably at any minute Thor will declare at least some of his films a "masterpiece"

I agree, Event Horizon a total flop, I like Sam Neil in films, but he was Sox here, they all were, the film was hard to figure.. just to many flash-backs not a lot happening, it got boring, they remake EH again the film industry are idiots.

Mendes should re-team with his Skyfall lead to play the title role in this - he's pretty wooden already, so ideal casting.

Gee whiz. I'm just crushed that this footage isn't going to be made available to the public. Christ on a tramp steamer, does no one remember Michael Winner and THE SENTINEL?

Much as I love SPACEBALLS, maybe it's better if Brooks lets this go. THE SEARCH FOR MORE MONEY was a cute joke, but...yeah. Best to move on.

I don't mind Daniel Craig, and this was the easy joke to make, but it made me friggin' laugh out loud.
