For the TITANIC "My Heart will go on" Song 20th Anniversary Tribute they have Celine Dion (who seems to be doing a pretty silly vocal impression of herself) in a white mushed up heart costume, sing the song to a standing Ovation Crowd with no mention whatsoever of it's composer.

Would expect nothing less.

Perhaps a small box with a photo at the end showing Horner and saying R.I.P.?

OF COURSE NOT!

The costume is actually quite reminiscent of Lionel Newman's Penis Napkin Joke/Trick he is quite well known for performing at parties back in the day.

You really thought the Billboard Music Awards would mention him? Yeah, right.

They never mention the composers of any other pop songs either.

James Horner has been dead for nearly two years now. It would be a strange time for a tribute.

Here's a link to the history of the song.

Gotta love the producer of the radio version Walter Afanasieff remaining bitter about having the actual composer's name attached to it. Especially since the cheesy electric guitar and backup singers were his contribution. What a guy.

Wasn't Afanasieff really complaining about the tacking on of a co-producer credit for Horner, when he had no involvement in this version of the song, outside of its composition?

Tributes expire after 12 months of death?

Is that Randy Newman in the foreground and GOD in the background laughing crazy with cigar?

How time flies. On that score, nothing new has emerged over the actual cause of the plane crash from official sources, it would seem. I'm not being morbid, however, the most probable cause for the crash is of interest to me - even as a lay person. The delay in any forthcoming conclusion from out of the investigation may be plagued by a litany of blanks. They might not have enough to go on to determine the exact cause of the crash, hence, the understandably long delay.

Have the NTSB/FAA ever had to leave an investigation into an air accident without a hard conclusion - they always seem to come up with some kind of plausible explanation for what happened in any given case?

Billboard used to mention composers all the time; scoring assignments, news articles, mini interviews, etc. Then in the 1990's it started to change big time. By the 2000's it was rare to see a composer's name in there unless it was one of a handful of famous composers.

Hell, they even at rare times had news of what scores were recording at certain recording studios and ones slated to record. Tell me where you find that even today.

Of course not. But songs written by dead composers are performed thousands of times a day, and we hardly expect each of those performances to be a tribute.

Somebody I knew just a little – the father of a boy in my sons' class at school – died last month in the crash of a plane he was piloting, rather like Horner did. They have no explanation for how it happened; people who understand these things say that even if the engine failed, an experienced pilot like this guy should have been able to glide the plane for a landing. Did he have a heart attack or stroke in the air? From what I'm told, they don't expect to solve this. There just isn't enough data.

So I don't think the Horner case is that unusual.

Thanks, Schiffy. I suspect the case won't simply be closed for lack of conclusive evidence, at least not for Horner. If it does become a closed book . . . then I can eventually stop running open-ended scenarios I've somehow conjured up in order to tie up the loose ends.

There's a well known YouTube incident of a pilot who filmed, in real time, an engine failure that occurred in his Russian-made-for-aerobatics plane. He managed to glide it for a surprisingly long period of time before finding a place to set down safely. Of course, that particular aircraft was designed to be more aerodynamically efficient than your average private pilot's mount. An engine failure could cause enough panic and adrenaline rush that the next event would probably be a stall. It's like a car crash: the onset seems to be in slow motion, yet the speed of occurrence is actually so fast that reaction times are insufficient for any chance of recovery.

Mr Newman is just demonstrating how to wield the baton properly while perfecting a Vulcan hand job . . . surely? J.T. seems to be in complete agreement.
