I hope this will be available for sale through SAE or Intrada.

I notice SAE doesn't have Dutton Vocalion included on their labels list. And they don't have the recent releases of Watership Down or Rozsa conducts Rozsa. And I even have trouble finding their releases for a good price on Amazon.

I have, however, had no trouble at all ordering directly from the Dutton site, with reasonable prices and the only hitch being sometimes delivery is delayed to USA - it took almost a month to get the Rozsa above, but it was worth the wait.

A much more "in depth" on this surprising Vaughan Williams' release here

I have to add that I rarely get excited over new releases these days but I am really pumped for this one. Can't wait to hear it.

For U.S. members, Amazon has this CD listed as "currently unavailable", which (I hope) means that they will be getting it in at some point. It's also possible that SAE might get in on it, even though they don't usually stock the label. After all, they have carried some of the Rumon Gamba / BBC Orchestra discs from Chandos (which is basically a classical label.)

Gamba included an 18 track version of the score on disc 1 of their Vaughan Williams recordings, but this appears to be considerably longer. Hence the "Complete" moniker.

We should all keep a look out.

Keep a lookout? It's quite reasonably priced on the dutton website and postage is actually reasonable. No comprende.

Yet another great surprise! Plus TWO FOR THE ROAD, THE RIFLEMAN, SONS OF KATIE ELDER etc.

I first bought the LP to this score about 1972, always enjoyed the score.

This is a must-buy for me!

Maybe Niall has been lighting more candles? smile

Great and memorable score. As Bruce remarked, it's easily ordered directly from the Dutton website.

Hmmm. Just wondering. Where/how would one rent a "wind machine" nowadays?

Ron, I don't think it can be that difficult to rent as, in addition to Vaughan Williams 7th Symphony, Richard Strauss's Alpine Symphony is performed (and recorded) with some regularity and is scored for a wind machine.

1.) I ordered this CD direct from Dutton. I am really looking forward to it.

2.) RE: Wind machine. Around 1993, I worked on a production of THE DRESSER at a small Chicago storefront-sized theatre. For it, they built their own wind machine. It was sort of barrel-shaped (picture a barrel with every other slat missing, turned on its side, and placed on something like a giant spit connected to a crank). The entire barrel was then covered with canvas. Something brush-like (I can't remember the details) was attached to be in constant contact with the canvas. When you rotated the barrel, the friction of that brush against the canvas sounded like howling wind. The pitch depended on the speed at which cranked the barrel.

Mind you, this was a very low-budgeted production, yet THEY managed to build their own wind machine... so I'm guessing other people could probably build THEIR own wind machine for less than it might cost to rent one.
