The fact that many of these are obscure is a testament to how labels have strived to release great LP titles to date.
Everything that ever was available on LP should be on CD
Agreed. As far as I know, all the LP releases by my three favourite composers Williams, Elfman and Goldenthal have had subsequent CD releases (either at the time of the new medium's arrival or later in a 'special edition'). So I'm all set there.
Everything that ever was available on LP should be on CD
Damn right! Probably no more than ten soundtrack LPs for me (including those three Rozsa Conducts Rozsa albums on Polydor, not a single track has shown up on CD!), there's only one pop holdout that I'm waiting for. The biggest number of albums I'm waiting on are classical, mostly 18th century & a lot on the Philips label, the Australian label Eloquence are releasing a lot of UMG titles (Philips, Decca & DG) first time on CD, & I had a lot of records from the French label Arion & they've hardly released any of their back catalogue on CD. Anyway this is a soundtrack site, so a few of my usual wants:
I'll Never Forget What's 'is Name - Francis Lai Hello-Goodbye - Francis Lai Harper - Johnny Mandel McLintock! - Frank Devol Where's Jack - Elmer Bernstein Rozsa Conducts Rozsa - M. Rozsa Smashing Time - John Addison ...& a few others.
My list has shrunk considerably in the past few years!
David and Lisa - Mark Lawrence/Victor Feldman. Quite a nice score, with some wonderful Jazz interpretations. I suspect the CDs I see for sale are not legitimate.
Ewoks - Peter Bernstein. A relatively forgotten gem, there is some really sweet and fun music on there, and an expansion would be welcome
Terrorvision - Richard Band/The Fibonaccis. I would imagine this one could be difficult due to the songs.
Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back 2LP set - Johnny Williams. Why are we still waiting for this? I realize it could probably be mostly recreated from various CDs, but this assembly was a work of art. I believe there are bits on the album which have not been released elsewhere.
