I really LOVED HBO’s min-series BIG LITTLE LIES. You know within the first minute that there has been a murder, but you won’t have any answers until the seventh (last) episode. Besides murder, the series explores the lies we tell others as well as the false images or facades we project to our friends. Finally it portrays the lies we tell ourselves. It is an interesting rumination on marriages, parenting, and personal relationships. Reese Witherspooon, Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern and Alexander Skarsgard are all excellent in the series; however, it is the luminous Nicole Kidmann who delivers an Emmy-deserving performance. It is fascinating to watch her seesaw between an intelligent, assertive woman and a wimpy, submissive female addicted to her demons and self-delusions. It was filmed in Monterey, California. The scenery is stunning! Check it out if you get a chance.

HBO’s “Big Little Lies” is one super Who Deserves It Most? By the time we’re into at least the fourth episode of seven, we’re still not absolutely sure who might have gotten it but we’re feeling confident that every one of the central characters could be the deserving victim. (Even the kids are suspect!) The show’s biggest plus among many, including the uniformly outstanding cast and a mostly chic atmosphere, is that it defies cliché. It so throws us that we’re on edge and love that we are. Joan perceptively singles out Nicole: “It is fascinating to watch her seesaw between an intelligent, assertive woman and a wimpy, submissive female addicted to her demons and self-delusions.” Because this is a limited series, and it should stay one, we don’t get into Nicole making a connection of violence as entrée into more orgasmic sex, suggested in some scenes. Lots of praise for the psychiatrist but, as life-saver first, she steers Nicole away from self-revelation. But that issue remains. Quibbles: Didn’t for a minute believe Adam Scott as Reese’s husband would be capable of satisfying her or any one else, not even when beardlessly singing “The Wonder of You.” Noticed, too, there was next to zilch in close ups of the director played by Santiago Cabrera, who obviously did satisfy her. Detected in the next to last episode when she spills the beans to her daughter, who earns the prize for the best publicity stunt attached to losing one’s virginity, Reese, otherwise doing some of the best work of her career, rings hollow when getting a case of the guilts. This is “Murder on the Trivia Night Express” as a cleansing action. Well, if that set of binoculars doesn’t intrude.

Advertised on sky atlantic and a lot of scenes of women arguing - i get enough of that already! That said, it look liked it might have something given the film level cast! Now ive heard from Huey then thats good enough for me. Although Jamestown might be worth a watch, Vikings is back, Billions is unmissable, shades of Blue getting better n better, midnight Sun improving and im still hanging in with Person of Interest, so duno whem im gona squeeze it in.
