This is by far the best score I've heard by BW so far. It's just a gorgeous work, with some beautifully poignant and tender violin and cello solo's amongst the drama and tragedy. Moments reminded me of some of James Horners' Eastern European sounding scores. BLACK GOLD, ENEMY AT THE GATES, TROY and BEYOND BORDERS were called to mind, not in their themes, but their feel and emotion. I'd enjoyed the samples and looked forward to hearing this, but I never expected it to be so full and rewarding in a more classical 'old style' way. Some of the darker passages are slightly modern(ish), but even those moments are clearly using full orchestra and percussion in a much cleaner sounding way. Highly recommended.
Totally agree Kev. I've followed Mr Wallfisch's stuff ever since hearing THE ESCAPIST. Loved a lot of it, been disappointed by some and honestly was worried when I heard he'd gone into the Remote Control fold. Producing wonderful stuff like this though shows he's still very much got it. Bring on 'IT' !
Yes spook, things looked ominous when he started droning out scores like HOURS & PRESSURE in a R/C manner, but there were always moments of beauty in things like BHOPAL and DESERT DANCER. I really hope he hits one out with IT.
I am by no means as much of an expert as most of the members on this board....but I agree, this is probably my favorite score this year. I bought it as a blind buy in case it went oop fast, I am surprised that it is still available.
Trying to do the last-minute rush of 2017 favourites to select my Top 10 for the webcast in a couple of weeks, and this one caught my attention. Great stuff!
