Ry Cooder's score for Crossroads, alas not available in full form (but some good excerpts on the album), but the Steve Vai music from that film was released on a compilation.
Yeah, I need a Ry Cooder on my list, but I'm struggling to choose between CROSSROADS and PARIS, TEXAS. Alas, I don't own any full Cooder soundtracks, and haven't seen too many of the movies he's scored.
I can recommend Crossroads as a fun movie, especially if you're looking at films where blues, both the music and the mythology thereof, plays a large role. It's got a great music track throughout (the soundtrack album is not representative of what you actually hear in the film).
Whether or not this is germane to your current project, catch up to it. I think you'll enjoy it.
Not familiar with THE STAND, really. CALENDAR GIRL is nice, but when it's up against stuff like DRIVING MISS DAISY and THELMA & LOUISE, it's going to lose out.
The "Top 5" list I was creating is now done and delivered, but no reason why this thread can't go on.
