DIE HARD: LIMITED EDITION RE-ISSUE (2-CD SET)
LLLCD 1419
Music by Michael Kamen
Limited Edition of 2000 Units
RETAIL PRICE: $24.98

STARTS SHIPPING MARCH 28

ORDER at www.lalalandrecords.com on 3/28, starting at 12 noon (PST)

La-La Land Records, Twentieth Century Fox and FOX Music present a re-issue of our previously sold-out 2-CD SET of the original motion picture score to the classic 1988 action blockbuster DIE HARD, starring Bruce Willis, Alan Rickman and Bonnie Bedelia, and directed by John McTiernan. Renowned composer Michael Kamen (LETHAL WEAPON 1-4, ROBIN HOOD: PRINCE OF THEIVES, THE LAST BOY SCOUT, DIE HARD 2-3) constructs an indelible musical template for the iconic, one-man-army of an everyman, John McClane, as he wages a skyscraper-encased war against a group of high-tech, heavily-armed thieves led by uber-villian Hans Gruber. Kamen’s score masterfully builds suspense, propelling all the plot’s high-octane action while enriching the characterizations. The DIE HARD experience is rounded out in this presentation with source cues and bonus tracks such as Vaughn Monroe’s “Let It Snow”, Run DMC’s “Christmas in Hollis,” John Scott’s “We’ve Got Each Other” and more! Produced by Nick Redman and Eric Lichtenfeld, restored by Mike Matessino and remastered by Daniel Hersch, this special 2-CD release features exclusive, in-depth liner notes by Eric Lichtenfeld and track-by-track analysis by film music writer Jeff Bond. This is a limited edition re-issue of 2000 units. Yippie-Kay-Yay!

NOTE: The musical and liner notes content of this re-issue is identical to our previous release, but brand new art design by Jim Titus welcomes this reprise to the party!

So Pleased to have got a copy of the 'Die Hard' re-issue, have always been hoping for it since missing out on the incredibly short lived original La La Land release.

I couldn't be happier with it, it's a really terrific release, but I just had a couple of questions about the bonus tracks.

Why were 'The Nakatomi Plaza', 'Gun in Cheek' and 'Fire Hose' put in the bonus section? Was it a creative decision in terms of running order or a qualitative decision due to the mono source of the later 2 tracks? Also, where would these three cues be placed if I were to put them in a playlist with the main program? Any help most appreciated.

Thanks again La La Land for making this available again for those of us that missed it last time, great to finally have it.

"Gun in Cheek" would go before "The Battle"

"Fire Hose" would be after "Assault on the Tower"

Isn't Nakatomi Plaza a source cue?

I also like to put "Message for Holly" after the main title as the second track. It's used in the film when John sees Holly for the first time and then cut to the pacific courier truck driving towards the building.

Thanks so much, that's really helpful.

I don't think 'Nakatomi Plaza' was source. I notice that it was the first track on the varese release (which I don't have) and varese actually combined it with 'Gruber's Arrival' for the track on their 3 disc 'Fox: 75 Years of great film music' which has been my go to 'Die Hard' track until I got this release so the 'Nakatomi Plaza' track has always felt like a part of the score to me. Would be fascinated if anyone knows any more about it.

If it's the one I'm thinking of, it's a short synthy "Roy Rogers" western-type xmas jingle that faded into Gruber's Arrival (which always bugged me on the Varese edition)

It doesn't appear in the film that way, so you'd only be recreating the Varese edition.

Indeed.

In fact, I think the only place it appears is in the background as source when we are introduced to Powell as he's buying all the twinkles. "I thought you guys just ate donuts!"

"Fire Hose" is for the scene when McClane jumps off the rooftop near the end of the film. So it should go right after "The Battle/Freeing the Hostages".

I never understood the misplacement of the cue called "Message for Holly". Its slate number is 2M2 and the original title is just "Holly". So it's right there in the movie where it belongs.

"The Nakatomi Plaza"'s original title is "Takagi Dies" and the slate is 4MO. It's supposed to start on the cut to McClane right after Gruber's line "Who said we were terrorists?" when he's interrogating Takagi.

"Roy Rogers meets Beethoven's Ninth" isn't heard in the film but was supposed to be used as elevator muzak.
The source cue playing during Powell's introduction is Kamen's Kurzweil version of "Let It Snow".
