This one is a huge favorite of mine, as well. This updated, comedic take on Cyrano de Bergerac is a wonderful film!

Henry our taste in film is usually polar opposite, but I am totally with you here. I love this film and Steve Martin was fantastic! Very funny and adorable.

Great movie, although my personal favourite Steve Martin movie is The Man With Two Brains.

The only joke that made a big impression on me was having a taxidermy store named "All Things Dead" (play on "All Things bright and beautiful, all creatures great and small, etc"). Years later, someone in a nearby town tried to emphasize their all-natural wood/paper gifts store by calling it "I used to be a tree" which had a similar negative implication.

My favorite Steve Martin movie!

It's one of the best "feel-good" movies ever made. You just want to live in Nelson, the town where it takes place. Everybody seems so good-natured (except for the "big-nose" jerk) and everybody seems to know each other, it seems like you could walk everywhere, it seems so pleasant and the views of the surrounding mountains are gorgeous and you have an amiable and good-natured fire chief bumbling about to boot.

The humor ranges from gentle to hilarious, from amusing to side-splitting, from brilliant slapstick (Andy trying to control the runaway fire hose!) to fabulously clever.

A seemingly effortless mixture of endearing characters, classic lines, and timeless story.

Perfectly stated. First time I saw the film was on HBO and was sucked right in. This is also one of those rare films where all the supporting characters are perfectly cast and interesting too. It's a comedy with heart, which is my favorite kinds of comedy.

When a thread is started to celebrate a film, I think it's important to state the year of release because all films are products of and reflect the culture of their time.

I saw this movie when it first came out. It was okay, but didn't impress me that much and I haven't thought much about it since, so I had to Goggle search it's year of release.

This June 19th marks this movie's 30th anniversary.

A old favourite of mine as well. This thread has prompted me to try to hunt it out and watch it again. We still occasionally amuse ourselves by doing the alien walk...

I haven't seen it in years either. I have a huge desire to watch the film again too. It's available on BR at a discount price so this is the perfect time to pick it up. Daryl Hannah was never more adorable either.

LC, you're as creepy as your new avatar, literally the kiss of death.

What the hell is "creepy" about making an obvious joking allusion to the Police song "Roxanne, you dont have to put on the red light"

"Chief...we can't get it started."

"Hey Andy, your coat's on fire."

"Oh yeah, heh heh heh. Aaack!"

"Somebody put it out!"

"NOT THE GASOLINE! NOT THE GASOLINE!"

big grin
