THURSDAY, MARCH 23

FARGO---FX released the trailer for Season 3.

ALIEN: COVENANT---new poster released for the sequel which shows an Alien Queen at the top center.

ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY---director Gareth Edwards spoke about the movie's original concept, "The prologue, at one point a long time ago, was going to be the Empire coming to kill the Jedi. And Jyn's mom was going to be a Jedi. We were witnessing one of those kills and Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn) would be the person sent to do it."
He added, "...we wanted a scene where Jyn (Felicity Jones) is orphaned because of what Krennic does, which sets her on her path of being a child of war. The problem was that the second you make her mom a Jedi you spend the entire movie questioning whether Jyn is a Jedi or not.
Eventually, we came up with the idea that her father (Mads Mikkelsen) should have designed the Death Star," Edwards continued. "That became a stronger way into stealing of the Death Star plans. We let go of the mother being a Jedi, and she became just a rebellious mom."
Writer Gary Whitta said, "This would be the first STAR WARS film that did not have a Jedi factor. I was concerned about it for a while. They are basically extinct. There are two left [Yoda and Obi Wan Kenobi], and they're in hiding. You're not going to see a Jedi in this film. How do we still get some element of the fact that the Force hasn't gone anywhere? That it's just in the background?"
Whitta continued, "Her mother was a Jedi Knight who was hiding out. But her father was still the scientist. We just had to pick a lane. We ended up feeling like her father should be the reason this thing existed. The guilt for that felt like better motivation in stealing the Death Star plans. In the end, we decided it was too much. We didn't need an actual Jedi character. We just needed someone who could feel the Force."
Also, ILM's John Knoll, who came up with the original concept for ROGUE ONE and offered it to Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy, said he has another idea for a STAR WARS standalone movie, “I do have one more idea that I may or may not pitch. I’ve got it about 3/4 figured out and if I can solve that last portion of it, I’ll see if Kathy’s interested. She may throw me out of her office.”

DEADPOOL 2---Michael Shannon is reportedly the top candidate to play villain Cable.

STEPHEN KING'S IT---image from the movie shows the iconic gutter scene of Georgie encountering Pennywise.

VICTORIA WOODHULL---Brie Larson (KONG: SKULL ISLAND) is the star/producer of this biomovie about Victoria Woodhull, the first woman to run for President in 1872.

HOWARD THE DUCK---director James Gunn commented on the 1986 movie based on the Marvel comic book, "No, no that movie sucks. That movie’s terrible. I’m a huge Howard the Duck fan. For people who don’t know, I’m a huge Marvel Comics fan, but Howard the Duck was maybe my favorite character as a kid. … Then they came out with that movie, and I was young, and I went so excited about it. First of all, I wasn’t hip with the caucasian eyelids, that upset me. They had the puppet, and it was a duck, but instead of having feathery or white eyelids, he had caucasian eyelids and it was creepy. So that alone gives it an F on the Entertainment Weekly rating system."

AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR---Vision was confirmed as being in the movie as Paul Bettany was seen as Vision on the filming set in Edinburgh, Scotland.

SILVER SABLE & BLACK CAT---Sony Pictures Spider-Man spinoff movie underway based on the Marvel Comics superheroes. Chris Yost (THOR: RAGNAROK) is the writer.

GHOSTBUSTERS---Ivan Reitman isn't discouraged by the disappointing all-female reboot movie and says more movies are in the future, “We jumped into an animated film [after the last movie] and we are developing live-action films. I want to bring all these stories together as a universe that makes sense within itself. Part of my job right now is to do that."

ZOMBIELAND 2---writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick gave an update on the sequel's status, "It is [in active development]. We’re trying to get it going. All of our cast have read the script and love it. Ruben [Fleischer] is signed on. It’s just a matter of making our cast deals and making it for a budget number. All the cast have become superstars now so, we made ZOMBIELAND with 20 million, so it’s trying to fit that financial model into the sequel model so it makes sense for the studio and being able to pay the actors what they now get paid and deserve to paid."

THE PRO---Paramount Pictures movie underway based on the graphic novel about a prostitute who wakes up with superhero powers and joins the League of Honor to control her anti-superhero behavior.

GAME NIGHT---Jason Bateman, Rachel McAdams, Kyle Chandler and Jesse Plemons stars in this comedy movie about couples who gather for their usual game night which leads to murder.

THE KNICK---although Steven Soderbergh was working on Season 3, it appears Cinemax has cancelled the series. Co-star Chris Sullivan said. “Yeah, I’ve heard it’s done. They were gonna try [to do a third season], but I’ve heard it’s done.”

SEAL---David Boreanaz (BONES) has replaced Jim Caviezel as the star of the untitled CBS pilot about a SEAL team and its dangerous missions. Caviezel left due to creative differences.

POWER RANGERS---producer Bill Sagan said about the franchise's future, "We already have a six-movie story arc."

THE DARKEST MINDS---movie underway based on the young adult novel about teenage survivors who develop super powers after a pandemic that killed most people under 20 years old. They are hunted down and placed in internment camps. Amanda Stenberg (SLEEPY HOLLOW), Gwendoline Christie (GAME OF THRONES) and Mandy Moore (THIS IS US) star.

ASSASSIN'S CREED---Ubisoft said it is developing a tv series based on the video game.

JT LEROY---Laura Dern is in talks to co-star with Kristin Stewart in the movie based on the book about a woman who wrote critically-acclaimed novels while posing as a transgender boy.

I like the Alien poster. Not convinced I'll like the film.

Why does that Alien poster remind me of the line from Beneath The Planet Of The Apes:

"Mr. Taylor, Mr. Brent, we are a peaceful people. We don't kill our enemies. We get our enemies to kill each other."

Oops, looks like there's a fly in the ointment.

Michael Shannon brings the crazy eyes but he's all wrong for Cable. Terrible casting idea.

I agree fully. Good actor, but I hate that choice.

There have been lots of actors bouncing back and forth between roles in and out of the Marvel and DC universes. Chris Evans, Ben Affleck, JK Simmons, Ryan Reynolds, Michael Shannon...and probably a few others I'm forgetting.

Will Cable have feet? Liefeld couldn't draw them. Or proportions. Or anything involving perspective. But he could do pockets and rubbish looking guns.
