OnyaBirri chased by a torch-wielding FSM lynch mob on The Fury thread, despite the fact he hadn't even posted there.

Oh, and once again this thread's "mission statement" from an earlier post:

"I don't want this to be construed in any way as a "put down" of those tried-and-true scores by composers we admire, because it absolutely is not."

From the Varese Sarabande 40 Years thread:

I miss the days when Varèse was putting out so many Golden/Silver age titles.. Nice to see that there are still people around who know the difference between music and "generic noise". We will see on Monday if the new owners of Varese will cater to those who love "generic noise" or those who love melodic music. I was very pleased and surprised that Varese released Rachel Portman's THE STORYTELLER.

So everything from between 1980 and 2018 is generic noise?

LOL At least 75 percent. Can't blame the composers entirely. They give the film producers what they want.

"Yes, and the photos of their CD collections tend to creep me out. Everything is so neat and orderly. It doesn't look like they drink or have sex in the same room with the stereo."

But Onya, why would anyone want to have sex with the stereo, no matter what room he's in?

Preston's hilarity, as hilarious as it may be, does not change the fact that Film Score Fans Tend to Be Muscally Conservative.

Who're you, PFK and the other guy? Enough already with the all-italics posts!
[HL's note: post above corrected] cool

ANYWAY, I sort've scan-read this thread and am almost afraid to respond because something doesn't translate. So let me allow you to categorize where I belong i.e. conservative? church ladyish?? extraterrestrial???:

(1) Golden Age rules
(2) Silver Age next
(3) hardly anything of note past 10 years (at least)

Or is it "musically conservative" in the overall context? If so,

(4) 60s rule (Four Seasons, British Invasion, Motown, Beach Boys)
(5) 70s a mixed bag due to disco but has its moments
(6) 80s--not bad!
(7) 90s-present an abomination.

And how about the overall overall context? If so,

(8) Big Band a big thumbs up...same goes for Gershwin and all of Tin Pan Alley...not to mention a host of classical ga--I mean guys

Hey man! If Mark Isham can address me as "MISTER" , so can a lowly board poster!

I don't think the BRRAAAM is played out quite yet; the last independent trailer I scored made sure to mention adding them specifically. And that was only a few months ago.

It's kind of a cool sound I guess. I really liked it in Man of Steel, as it seemed to fit the apocalyptic terraforming thing going down dere.

One of the things I appreciate about this site is that there are so many posters with a wide variety of preferences, so much so that any general statement will be disputed instantly. I say that because I'm about to make a general statement. I think the posters' tastes are more often than not driven by two things: 1) loyalty to a specific composer, and, 2) a preference or affinity for certain genres of films. 1) The fans of (name your favorite composer) will be more willing to indulge one of that composer's lesser scores than to accept a superior effort from (name a composer who is not one of your favorites), and would be more willing to appreciate more avant-garde approaches from their favorite composer than a more moderate approach from someone else. 2) Sci-fi, horror, Marvel, fantasy--these types of scores generate a lot of interest from posters, and sometimes these types of films include more avant-garde styles; if this musical approach was in some non horror/sci-fi/fantasy films would it be as accepted by those same fans? Any thoughts?
