I haven't really played a videogame since I was a kid/teenager (with the exception of some Telltale games in later years which are basically molded on the ol' 90s point-and-click games anyway), but there's some great music out there. And some not so much. I tend to veer more towards the "alternative" scores -- electronic, chamber ensemble, pop-infused etc. The big and bombastic, orchestral action game scores don't do much for me. Interestingly, I just completely a massive survey on Norwegian game music for a music organization over here. I definitely learned something about the mechanics of it in the process. If you like electronic music+chamber give Yuzo Koshiro a try, Streets of rage is a classic score parts 1,2,3, it has been reviewed buy game editor's before, they reckon its one of the best all time game scores. Yuzo Koshiro is a skilled composer.
