C'mon... this quote from the generous MV in the questions thread AND the speculation deserves its own thread:

Question from Big X:
"MV any chance of a Morricone release, 'The Untouchables' was simply great. 'Once Upon A Time In America and the West from LLL would be simply brilliant."

Answer from MV:
"We may have something coming in early 2018 that was a find"

I suck at speculating. Any ideas...?

DANGER: DIABOLIK and ROMA COME CHICAGO (aka BANDITS IN ROME) would be real finds. Both were Paramount releases, and either one would blow ORCA right out of the sea.

Lionel G. Woodman once told in an interview that the master tapes for ROMA COME CHICAGO are badly damaged.

I have an "ahem" of this that runs just under 40 minutes, 22 tracks, and it's not badly damaged at all. So something else must exist.

ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST is already expanded on GDM.

Yes, that may well be true about Rome come chicago master tapes - or at least that was the info up till recently - but i suspect a decent second set exists or the information given to lionel was incorrect. A lot of info out of italy in the last 25 years has ended up being misinformation or red herrings. Nailing down absolute accurate truth is usually difficult or simply impossible, especially as much of this stuff is up to 50 years old.

Absolutely right. Look at how FSM released expanded NAVAJO JOE (tape sources), 5 MAN ARMY (music stem), and GUNS FOR SAN SEBASTIAN (tape sources). All recorded in Italy in the 60s.

Indeed. But for ROME COME CHICAGO, one thing we know for sure is that it was produced by Dino De Laurentiis -- which means it could be very difficult to get the music rights. Actually, it could be same problem as ORCA. Most of the music they own is sadly still unreleased, so unfortunately, even a release of what's currently available (which I have never heard) seems very unlikely.

Curiously DANGER: DIABOLIK was also produced by Dino de Laurentiis. It is more widely known as lost, but we never know. LABBRA DI LURIDO BLU is also widely known as lost, and I don't see obvious right issues.

Don't forget about the often requested Sette pistole per i MacGregor, Sette donne per i MacGregor, and La ragazza e il generale. I must say that I don't fully remember the status. I've always assumed the elements were also missing.

In any case, for most of my Morricone requests, it seems more likely that Italian label would release them if elements are available. I'm personally waiting for THRILLING and I DUE EVASI DI SING SING, which has apparently at least a few tracks available on a very rare LP libary. LA VOGLIA MATTA could also have an official release. There are quite a few dubious (lossy re-encoded as lossless!) downloads available for purchase because of the 60 years rule.

By the way, what is the status of ARABELLA? I'm sure that was discussed over the last 15 years here but I don't remember. Back then there were so much more Morricone soundtracks to expand that I didn't pay as much attention.

Regarding LLL, would THE SCARLET AND THE BLACK be a good bet for a CD premiere? Otherwise, it could simply be an ultimate version of some US film already expanded!

What i would say is this - when something doesnt appear, collectors usually assume, or hear a rumour - that master tapes are lost, damaged etc. When on many occasions clean versions are rescued but simply not able to release due to a problem securing the license rights - as slint and stefan have said - or other complications/obstacles.

Answer from MV:
"We may have something coming in early 2018 that was a find"

Did this refer to TWO MULES FOR SISTER SARA of the Universal Heritage Collection or is there still anything else in the Morricone pipeline?

MV probably referred to TWO MULES FOR SISTER SARA, but that "early" could indicate that he meant something else or was this Universal Heritage Collection meant to be announced much earlier?
