Four or five years ago there was a post about horror film music or halloween music or just plain scary music. I can't find that thread now, and old threads I have opened aren't the right one. Anyhow, someone posted links to a goth band on youtube. The songs were like horror film scenarios and the music was rich and powerful. Can anyone identify this band? or the thread it was posted in?
Thanks for responding, but that's not it, although it's very interesting. I thought RAPHSODY might be the band until I listened to the link, but no. This was a halloween-themed thread or a horror film scores thread, not a heavy metal thread. Some album covers were posted of the band I'm looking for. I'm thinking they might have been an Irish or English group. It wasn't heavy metal either although the music had that full-bodied texture.
Sirusjr? Jehannum? Thor? First Breath? Any of Richard-W's clues ring any bells? If I recall, you'll all into goth music to a certain extent; if I' remembering wrong I apologize.

It's probably not the thread, but five years ago I started a Joy Division (and New Order) appreciation thread. They hail from Manchester, England.
Again, it was a horror-film or halloween-season or scary music thread.
Maybe I've misled putting "goth" in the title. This band was more symphonic telling romanticized horror stories in song and music. The album covers looked Gothic but the music was not exactly goth.
I've enjoyed Midnight Syndicate's music for maybe 15 years and was about to suggest this as the band Richard W was seeking when I got to the part where he found it himself.
If you are not partial to sound effects and occasional mysterious comments and scary remarks, I think the best introduction to their work is Out of the Darkness - their retrospective of tracks from 1994-1999.
What interested me about all this is the sub-sub-sub-genre of Haunted House music, to which they have been a major contributor for a long time. And which I wasn't even aware of until I stumbled on them (on Amazon I think) many years ago.
This is my favorite track, which I have been known to put on endless repeat:
Yes, that's a potent track. I like it. "goth" is not my thing, really, and I'm too old for role-playing. But I love to experience immersive music and film, and MIDNIGHT SYNDICATE immerses you instantaneously in their rich atmosphere and keeps you in there. This band knows how to sustain a mood. Every piece has a three-act structure. They are highly accomplished musicians. Their music is deep, rich and intoxicating. They are also a lot of fun; there's some sly humor in their Christmas album. I was looking for a special kind of mood music to put me in the right state of mind for a creative endeavor, and this music does that. As soon as I heard it, it felt familiar.
Last night I visited the record stores and came home with six MIDNIGHT SYNDICATE cd's. I'm afraid Out of the Darkness isn't one of them. It will have to wait until next payday. But I plan on getting them all.
I listened to Gates of Delirium three times last night and today I'm starting on The 13th Hour. But I'll never really finish listening. This is the sort of music one keeps going back to. I'm an old horror film buff, so I know all their references and share in the enjoyment of them. They remind me of the Gregorian chants in HORROR HOTEL (1960) a film I first saw on TV in 1967 when I was too little to stay up late.
I also sent for THE DEAD MATTER DVD / CD combo. If I like the film I'll order the blu-ray from amazon Germany.
Have you heard NOX ARCANA ? They seem to be prolific although, I gather, different?
I've also been gathering a lot (and I mean A LOT) of haunted house and halloween-themed sound effects CDs. Who would have thought there'd be so many.
