Was there not a Republic Pictures volume in this series? Before seeing your post, Bob, I would have bet money that I had seen one somewhere along the line, but now I can find no evidence that such a thing ever existed. Scary! There was no book on Republic in the series we are talking about. Four other books on Republic were: "Republic Studios: Between Poverty Row and the Majors" - Richard M. Hurst, Scarecrow Press; Updated edition (March 15, 2007) https://www.amazon.com/Republic-Studios-Between-Poverty-Majors/dp/081085886X "The Republic Pictures Checklist: Features, Serials, Cartoons, Short Subjects and Training Films of Republic Pictures Corporation, 1935-1959" - Len D. Martin, McFarland; 2nd edition (May 5, 2006) https://www.amazon.com/Republic-Pictures-Checklist-Corporation-1935-1959/dp/078642740X/ref=pd_cp_14_2?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=078642740X&pd_rd_r=11SZ9TZY8PTZDXBEWDV8&pd_rd_w=zKJvq&pd_rd_wg=x8V6g&psc=1&refRID=11SZ9TZY8PTZDXBEWDV8 "The Republic Chapterplays: A Complete Filmography of the Serials Released by Republic Pictures Corporation, 1934-1955" - R. M. Hayes, McFarland & Company (November 1992) https://www.amazon.com/Republic-Chapterplays-Filmography-Corporation-1934-1955/dp/0899506658/ref=pd_sbs_14_2?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=0899506658&pd_rd_r=X8NS750HTDZA6H7NNQQY&pd_rd_w=OHi3b&pd_rd_wg=LCVWB&psc=1&refRID=X8NS750HTDZA6H7NNQQY "Republic Confidential, Volume 1: The Studio" - Jack Mathis http://www.oldies.com/product-view/BK4732.html

Rameau, I can well understand your reluctance to part with DAVID O. SELZNICK'S HOLLYWOOD, successfully the book-bound equivalent of a Selznick super-production. I do hope you have a first edition copy, with the red dust jacket printed on foil paper, an extra touch of glamour and magic. After that initial edition, they used normal paper. (I particularly love the insert of the KING KONG program booklet cover. As it happens, the building where I live in Hollywood used to be a golden age hotel, co-owned by Mr. Selznick.

Yup Preston, the foil cover job. There used to be a film quiz on the BBC, I think it was in the eighties, & the prize every week for the winner was this stunning book. A few years after that, I was looking around a remainder book shop in Soho, & they had a pile of these, I think they were £7 each! I bought two (one for me & one as a present, all I could carry, they weigh a ton), I popped in there the next day (I was working around there) & they'd all gone, as they should do at that giveaway price.

Wow. I'm happy for you, and for whover you gave the other copy to.

Wow. I'm happy for you, and for whover you gave the other copy to. Ah, actually I was wrong, it's the reprint, the high gloss paper fooled me. Thinking about it, I bought a third copy s/hand when I visited New York, there was a huge bookshop there, I think it was called Stacks, & they had a few copies & the best one was as new, so I hauled that back to Blighty & gave it to my niece for Christmas (my brother-in-law was riding high in British Airways, so I never had to worry about luggage weight).
