Composer John Massari is currently working on re-orchestrating his synth score for Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1987). I think it is about 9 months away from being released, however he has been putting up videos on Youtube about the process, as well as talking about the ongoing appeal of the film with fans.

Bear McCreary and the original line-up of the Dickies will be involved in the project too.

These videos come from his youtube channel.

Orchestra Recording Session at Warner Brothers Studios: Killer Klowns from Outer Space

Okay, I only clicked on this thread on a whim, because I was curious about it being a "re-recording". Normally 80s synth scores are just not my thing. Before opening the thread, I assumed this was going to be a synth recreation along the lines of what BSX has done on a number of occasions. Oh how wrong I was! That video is just INCREDIBLE. I have no relationship to the film or the music, but this orchestral performance reveals it to be a great composition, worthy of preservation free from the datedness of its original version.

I'd heard the name John Massari over the years but I had no idea he was such an accomplished orchestral composer. That clips shows that he's a master of not only themes but orchestration as a well. It just sparkles in the best possible way. Count me IN for buying an album of this orchestral recreation. TerraEpon, are you reading this??

And can any Massari fans point me to other orchestral scores of his which demonstrate his talent like this?

Yavar

P.S. Super cool that Bear McCreary is involved in this too. I can even hear a bit of influence on his own work, comparing this with 10 Cloverfield Lane.

I've always thought the score was enjoyable, but man it really comes to life here! Count me in among the excited.

Hi Yavar, he has a lot of his music up on soundcloud.

His music for the Ray Bradbury Theatre is also very good for orchestral work.

I looked it over and I contributed. In the updates, Bear McCreary says he's stoked!I'm going to see the live session at the studio. I asked if it's ok to get Bear's autograph on some of my Bear McCreary collection. I appreciate that it is being done in Hollywood with A-List musicians!

The Dickies have asked me to have you remove any mention of them from this article. They do not wish to be associated with Indiegogo in any way. And, they do not wish to publicize any new recording until they give the go ahead.

Thank you for your help.

Best,

John Massari
