Holy heck, the ending to Day of the Locust....

thanks for the spoilers. mad And one might add, this is your FAVORITE ending?

No, it's "a" favourite. A new favourite. And I think the film is 45 years old... And this thread is about endings... Which often contain spoilers... wink

Best final shot ever is Electra Glide in Blue. Not sure what the best ending to a film is though off the top of my head.

Edit: Invasion of the Bodysnatchers (78). Great frightening satisfying ending.

Or Evil Dead 2 for being completely bonkers.

I didnt spoil the end of the Stuttering Pig video I posted and that's 80 years old. And just a favorite, no qualifying necessary.

Scanners. The end Duel between the brothers, is a classic not every ones cup of tea, but an atmospheric film all the way threw.

Wicker Man. The sacrifice of Edward Woodward is a classic ending, plus the pagan folk music & instrumentals fits it perfect.

Oh yes, those are two great ones, especially The Wicker Man.

One of the most stunning endings I’ve ever seen:

Andrei Rublev

Electra Glide in Blue. Holy hell that ending blew me away. It comes out of nowhere and the final shot is outstanding. Nice thread, Gordon.

good choice oblic.

Yes indeed - I remember watching it in a Newcastle cinema in the late 70s. I think it was the Waterloo Street multiplex, the first in the city.

I think mine would either The Italian Job or Moonraker...

MOONRAKER???!!!!!!

sod off!
brm

Excellent!

How about 49th PARALLEL where the train reverses direction and returns to Allied Canada!

Random Harvest - the smoke-transition from Coleman to Garson, and Coleman's slight but noticeable physical reaction to what must be a flood of memories.....

even better:
LOST HORIZON when Coleman spots Xanadu (and that great Tiomkin music!)

Oh I can see Steverino tossing that baseball against the wall as I type. A welcome sight.
Huh. Sight. Nothing like "watching" a thread not to mention "listening" to one. Or two. wink

This trio is a joy. 'Splains why I'm going hog wild here. And I blame you! I'd pay admission just to watch a compilation of the opening credits thread with the closing sequences in this thread. Aural and cinematic Heaven as far as I'm concerned.

Cheers. And thanks, GR.

Howard, A THOUSAND CLOWNS is a dear love of mine,...

Oh mine too. To get Robards and Gordon along with William Daniels (s/h/b nominated for support) and Gene Saks was great. Not that Harris and Balsam were slouches but I love it when casts are taken from stage to screen. The way they filmed all over the Big Apple made for a wonderful open-it-up element. Kinda like Godspell. But always think of the commercial for Radio Free Europe ("On Broadway") as an association with the same b&w mid-60s NYC era.

Boy! I am a big fan of the play but the film just doesn't cut it.
Robards was all wrong for the role, on film at least!
